THE CLASH "sandinista!" cd,1980.

dear oh dear oh dear!
"sandinista" should be retitled "how the mighty have fallen!"...
piece of crap IMO!....these guys lost me with this album which was originally a triple vinyl album...got back a bit of credibility with "combat rock" then totally destroyed themselves with "cut the crap".
by 1980 punk was dead, so were these guys IMO, i do admire them for making the effort to morph into something else, but alas, it did not work at all...
dub,reggae,rap,soul,pop,instrumentals, samples,...i dunno, maybe they knew that dub and sampling was the way of the future and they just got in there first...either way, abysmal album, just wondered what the hell they were thinking when they got what appears to be youngsters singing on a piano based version of 'career opportunities' from their superb debut set 'the clash'.
of the thirty-six tracks on offer here, eighteen are simply crap,the other half do get a like score, some barely scrape through though and none are what i'd call 'classic clash' tracks.
seems like this was the route Mick jones was heading towards his Big Audio Dynamite group in the late 1980s...IMO he should have simply left the Clash then to leave their back catalogue strong and their reputation intact! instead they IMO, simply became a parody of their former selves with this one, much like john Lydon became with PiL.
