HERMAN'S HERMITS "the very best of" cd,2005.
double cd containing every "a side" and "b side" of their single releases from the mid sixties through to their demise in 1970/71....
interesting to note that these guys were more popular outside of the UK than in it...
having more US top 10 hits in the 1960s than any other British Invasion group except for The Beatles, also interesting to note that vocalist Peter Noone was only 19 when he scored his irst week at #1 in the US...making him the youngest ever UK vocalist to reach the peak out there!, also, the first band from Manchester to score a #1 hit in the US...took until Oasis did it in 1996 with "wonderwall" for another Manc' band to achieve it!
also, in the linear notes for this i was surprised to find that Jimmy Page and John Paul jones(both better known later for Led Zepplin) played on most of their earlier singles!
strange that songs like "mrs.brown youve got a lovely daughter","leaning on the lamp post", "dandy" and "henery the eighth i am" were never issued as singles in the UK, would have thought that theyd be right up the british music buying public's alley???strange indeed????
so, what we have here is a two cd set containing fifty six tracks, the running order is in chronological ordr also, with the b-side of the singles following directly after the a-sides, good stuff to see the progression of these guys, i wasnt aware until the other day neither that Peter Noone still plays the Vegas club circuit to this day, obviously living off his former glory days not unlike Wayne Newton LMAO!
anyway,
fifty six tracks equates to:
3s=14
2s=30
1s=12
for an overall score of 2.1, which is a bloody good effort for so many tracks IMO, im pretty sure had this collection have just consisted of their "a-sides" then it surely would have got a love rating, nonetheless, still a great career spanning set and well worth the money in purchasing IMO!
