WINGS "give rieland back to the irish" b/w "instrumental version" 1972
this single was released right in the middle of the terrible civil war in Northern Ireland between Catholics and the British Army with the Irish Prodestants...
terrible piece of history IMO...
anyway, Macca thought he'd stick his ten cents worth in and go all political and socially aware like John Lennon was...
problem was, McCartney is not as savvy as John on political issues...his always seem rather whimsical and toned down...no matter how whimsical his thoughts and warblings, this was still banned by the BBC(as was his previous effort 'hi hi hi')...
regardless of that, i love this "a" side because its not very often i get to hear it(its yet to be released on cd as far as im aware)
"b" side is an instrumental version of the "a" side...i can forgive PM for that because he rarely does that with his singles...
single did actually make the charts here making it all the way to #17
