LOU REED "rock and roll animal" cd, 1974
album chart stats:
US..........#42
UK..........#26
AU..........#20
Lou's fifth solo album was a "live" album...
now, im not really a fan of Reed but htis live set is brilliant...
his live versions of the songs are more 'edgy','raw' and packed with 'emotion' than those from the sterile studio environment..
i also love the extended guitar jams on the songs, though not the same as Neil Young and Crazy Horse, but like NY, you can feel Reed getting "into" what he
is playing 100%...
the original vinyl album only has five tracks on it becasue two of those tracks last inexcess of 10minutes each, thankfully the cd has more room for time than vinyl so we get two additional tracks on the cd version(tracks 3 and 4 being the bonus tracks from that taped gig)...
all up, a superb live album IMO, up there with KISS' "alive",Dire Straits "alchemy",NY's "live rust" and Weller's "live wood" albums!
i dont like scoring live albums because they are live, but i do love listening to this one whenever it comes out of the pile of cds...
"allmusic" rate this one a converted 2.7, which seems justified IMO, i'll try to find a couple of links from this gig on youtube for you guys:
