Iâve listened to The Breeze - cool title. Be interesting to hear anyone elseâs opinions â this is mine!
On the face of it, it seems a fitting tribute to JJ Cale â the artists are all polished and accomplished â Clapton does a perfect take and Mark Knopfler puts his stamp firmly down on a couple of tracks, which I actually prefer to a very faithful reproduction â more interesting. I thought John Mayer stood out too, and Iâm not one of his followers. Willie Nelson gives it a fair amount of stick and Iâm not a follower of his either, but I think itâs time to take it easy now Willie! They all did a great job so itâs weird that, for me, it just misses capturing the essence of JJ Cale and the listening becomes a bit monotonous â I wonder if âpolishedâ is the clue â not fuzzy enough? A bit too slick, or maybe thatâs just what big, warm, lazy laidback sounds do. Iâm gonna go get out Troubadour and 5 to check. Havenât heard those in a long while!
