Today I'm going to show you songs from my country. I'm from Poland and we have a varied folk music tradition here. There are different melodies and ways of singing in the mountains (South Poland) and different melodies and ways of singing on the East Poland for example.
First song is "Hej, Krywaniu, Krywaniu wysoki" ('Hey, Krywań, high Krywań'). It's about the peak Krywań in the Tatra Mountains. Polish Gorals have a very alive singing tradition and they are very proud of it. Today Gorals are the most musical ethnic grup in Poland. Tradition in other etnic groups is still disappearing but Gorals are still game to singing.

OK, another folk song from Polish mountains is "Tomu kosa". It's from very interesting region Łemkowszczyzna in Bieszczady Mountains (in English Lemkivshchyna but I'm not sure if it's correctly). This region is in a part of Poland, in a part of Ukraine and in a part of Slovakia. Lemkos (people who live there) like Gorals from Tatra Mountains are very proud of their culture and tradition and their tradition is still alive. The song "Tomu kosa" tells probably about harvest but I don't know Rusyn language as well as I know Ukrainian or Russian. By the way, the interesting point is that if I listen to the folk songs and I read their lyrics, I get to know the languages better because they are similar to Polish language.

Third Polish song I would like to show you is "Kołysanka Konopna" ('Hemp Lullaby'). A mother is asking to her son for sleep. She's singing that when he grows up, he will help her with works like grazing cows. It's and old song and once upon a time even small 5-year-old children had to help their family with working. The song is from East Poland, as fair as I recall.

The song "Pada deszczyk" ('It's raining') is from Suwałki Region in the North-East Poland. It tells about raining but not only... It's about unhappy love.

And the last song for today is "Kupalnocka" ('The Kupala Night'). This song is about rituals connected with the Slavic Midsummer Night.
