Being as he didn't say MUSICAL artist (and yes, I'm aware or of the venue but still...): Michelangelo or Sir Francis Bacon or Benjamin Franklin. My pick is Leonardo da Vinci. In music it would be Beethoven, Bach or Stravinsky. All your moderns didn't invent--they merely transformed/converted/subverted existing formats. Prove me wrong. Have a nice day.
