my knowledge for Idol of any sort is quite poor but i think at least Ellen will give a bit of character to the show as she is a great personality. However, to be honest, I dont think Idol is how we should produce the greatest artists going around, as it is a fan based show and thus the most talented are not necessarily the Idol winners as well as contestants that cannot perform such genres as each week holds for and being from Australia, the 2008 Idol winner was a true rocker and really should have been part of a band rather than join Idol and become a commerical solo artist for Sony BMG (i think).
Essentially, I refuse to watch Idol but maybe Ellen in the US will make it easier to watch. We'll see.
