New Pornographers ....http://www.allmusic.com/artist/the-new-p.../biography.....All Music calls them an indie supergroup! All 6 of their albums have garnered four or better star ratings ....I am sure A.C. Newman and crew are aware of the Brill Building...lol...most musicians are also music nuts....by the way I am not a big fan of New Pornographers but Brill Bruisers is uptempo ...and melodic,,,a tribute to Brill songsmiths ?

I checked and the last album I bought by a Canadian band was Sagacity by Saga (2014). I am not sure if you would call them a current band as they have been around for a long time, but I like them a lot. Next was probably something by Pat Travers who seemes to be active again. I also like FM, Max Webster, BTO and Mahogany Rush.
