John McVie was born on this day in 1945, in London, England. He is the Mac in Fleetwood.
A bass player, he started out invited to play with John Mayallâs Bluesbreakers, a huge vote of confidence for an aspiring muso, but he ultimately got fired for drunkenness and a couple of years down the line, an alcohol induced seizure gave him a big enough fright for him to have been sober ever since.
In the meantime, he followed the also-fired-by-John-Mayall Peter Green, and married Christine Perfect who had been with Chicken Shack and who ended up as a major contributor to Fleetwood Macâs success despite the fact that all of their personal relationships were ⦠well â¦. uumm - interesting!
Along with the addition of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, and eleven albums later, Fleetwood Mac went on to achieve great things with a line-up not even remotely resembling the original incarnation; it was Peter Green who had started it all - he had been instrumental in recruiting both Mick Fleetwood and John McVie and in fact it was he who coined the FM title.
They hit the bigtime with Rumours and this track was written by the whole lot of âem, including John whose songwriting credits are rare! Itâs a classic â¦
