Holiday i-Pod listening. The sole culturally enlightening holiday listen. Mascagni's 19th century one-act Opera contains the all-too-short, but peerlessly beautiful Intermezzo, as used by Martin Scorcese in the brilliant Raging Bull movie. AllMusic doesn't score Classical recordings.

Morton Feldman's String Quartet No.2 as performed by the Flux Quartet
Excellent composition from my favorite composer, and the muted violins of the Flux Quartet add a very nice touch

Picked this up on a business trip to Southern Germany many years ago. It was recorded on the Holy Trinity organ at Ottobeuren Cathedral & Abbey. Ottobeuren is quite a small town, and the locals are very proud of their cathedral: Our hosts showed us round, and one of the monks spent about half an hour at the keyboard of this organ (the cathedral has three) explaining it to us, before settling us into the front pews and giving us a short recital. Memorable experience. The music is sublime on this collection, and the organ is put through it's paces, using lots of different sounds throughout. It's particularly well recorded as well, and really captures the power of this one man music machine. AllMusic doesn't score Classical discs.
