![]() GEORGE HARRISON "somewhere in england" 1981, vinyl. #17 AU, #13 UK, #11 US. this album was my introduction to George as a solo performer, at the time i thought this was a great album so i started looking back and bought several other solo albums. the real mark this album makes is that it was the first album released by an ex-Beatle since the murder of John Lennon and contains the first real tribute song for John in "all those years ago", on which Paul and Ringo made a guest appearance, lyrically that song is quite good and honest but the music seems a touch dated compared to the other tracks. "teardrops" still sounds quite fresh today and is the best track here and even though George was yet to form a working partnership with Jeff Lynne of ELO, this one has shades of ELO through the music."save the world" is a nice environmental song and "blood from a clone" shows George's hatred for the music business 'suits'. all up this one is very underrated and IMO is a good starting point for GH's music. I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: writing's on the wall best track: teardrops tracks: 1. blood from a clone** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2K7RKatJRM audio 2. unconsciousness rules** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBgWAxSYH_8 audio 3. life itself** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZF9lJaWVtk audio 4. all those years ago** #9 AU, #13 UK, #2 US. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85Smw33PKJA video 5. baltimore oriole** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02jEuT8gkyQ audio 6. teardrops*** #51 US. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f52CGqohNX0 audio 7. that which i have lost*** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwUUO1XsMbw audio 8. writing's on the wall** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bG4bhVFznp8 audio 9. hong kong blues** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEmIQRh8VGs audio 10.save the world** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRQq0vvpxmw audio 3s=2 2s=8 1s=0 rating: 2.2

^^ This is an interesting George album, the original version was rejected by his record company as being not commercial enough. George had to delete several tracks and re-record others....................The cover was re-shot and the whole thing was far from what he originally intended.....................In true rebel fashion, the extra material contained one or two reference to the incident and from thenm on George was no too happy with his record company's view of what he should produce.
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!
It's a mixed up sensation this being alive Oh! it wears a man down into the ground It's the strangest elation I can't describe it Oh it leaves a man weary It makes a man frown..............................Chris Simpson ( "Mixed Up Sensations" 1975 Martin's Cafe )

![]() Oh what those silly love songs can do. That's what propelled this to the top of the charts here, (#2 in the U.K.) along with Let Em In, and uh, the fact that it's Paul McCartney. Those two singles were #1 hits. A good album but I can't do that Cook Of The House thing, sorry. Paul lets everyone get in on the act here with Denny singing lead on two tracks, and Linda, Joe and Jimmy on one each. Other than Lindas, those tracks all pass. Only other one I don't like is She's My Baby. Guess I'll have to go with Silly Love Songs as my fav, although Wino Junko is a close second, with Jimmy on vocals. This is the follow up album to the hugely succesful Venus And Mars. It was released in the midst of a world tour, which didn't hurt sales any. That would be Paul's first U.S. tour since the Beatles and a sellout everywhere. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Cook Of The House Best Track - Silly Love Songs You'd think that people would have had enough of silly love songs. But I look around me and I see it isn't so. Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs. And what's wrong with that? I'd like to know, 'cause here I go again I love you I love you I love you I love you I can't explain the feeling's plain to me, now can't you see? (I love you) Ah, she gave me more, she gave it all to me, now can't you see, (I love you) What's wrong with that? I need to know, 'cause here I go again I love you I love you Love doesn't come in a minute, Sometimes it doesn't come at all I only know that when I'm in it It isn't silly, love isn't silly, love isn't silly at all. How can I tell you about my loved one? How can I tell you about my loved one? How can I tell you about my loved one? (I love you) How can I tell you about my loved one? (I love you) I love you I love you I love you (BGV#1 I can't explain the feeling's plain to me, say can't you see?) I love you (BGV#1 Ah, he gave me more, he gave it all to me, say can't you see) I love you (BGV#1 I can't explain the feeling's plain to me, say can't you see?)
