What Are You Listening To?
[Image: 220px-Broken_Brights_by_Angus_Stone.png]

ANGUS STONE  "broken brights" cd 2012

a revisit
his second solo album and funnily enough, the only one under his own name...
alt-folk, hints of Dylan and Uncle Neil here and there
i wish he would have explored this style more than the indi-pop he got in to after this
anyway, i saved his best album till last (unintentionally of course)
love five of the twelve tracks, liking the remainder puts this one at 2.4 which means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

lead off single:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

MARK KNOPFLER & EMMYLOU HARRIS  "all the roadrunning" cd 2006

country album
collaboration between Mr K and Emmylou
some uptempo finger pickin' tunes and some gorgeous slower ones on here
was amazing to think how much Emmylou sounds like Kasey Chambers on here
would certainly be up there with his best IMO
either way, a great album
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

fave:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

GENE PITNEY  "...sings just for you"  vinyl 1963

from Lynne's vinyl collection
yup, Lynne is a huge fan of Pitney, she has around 30 if his albums on vinyl (including compilations)
this was his third album and i was only familiar with a couple of the tracks prior to listening to it
just as i would expect, its a decent album
nothing i did not like and a couple i loved, all be it those i was already familiar with
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

fave:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight

WILLIE NELSON   "38 timeless classics"   cd   1990-ish

well bugger me!
yesterday's random LP pick was a Willie comp and today's random CD pick is a different one LOL
this one is better, more complete
two disks and yes, you guessed it, 38 tracks
certainly more definitive than a dozen tracks
cant remember the actual release year but it was around the time i first saw him in concert.
actually saw him on one other occasion as part of The Highwaymen with Merle, Kris and Johnny...
anyway,
an excellent double set, probably all most people who are casual or curious fans would need to start their Willie journey
love the vast majority of these tunes, at least 25 and liking the remainder which means a rating of 2.7 means....
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

i seriously cannot pick a fav without feeling guilty that i left others out so a random selection instead:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

ROY CLARK   "yesterday when i was young"

from the MH "vinyl collection list
his nineth album of thirty-seven in total
only thing i could recall by him is "i never picked cotton" from the 1970s
sounds more like a crooner in places than a country singer but what the heck would i know
liked half of the album, did not care for the other six tracks
title track and the one i chose to link were my favs
album comes in at 1.6 on a first up listen which means
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

fav:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

STEVE EARLE  "copperhead road"   cd  1988

a revisit
didnt know where to put it
not quite rock/classis rock, not soft rock either,
i guess 'outlaw' rock/country fits better
solid album
two songs i love, the title track and the one i end up linking
the rest is fairly good too ranking it a 2.2 which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

fav:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

KASEY MUSGRAVES  "pageant material"  cd, 2015

a revisit
random pick from the cd shelves
her second album of five
i own the first two
almost pop crossover stuff in places
songs are still pretty good though
stands up well after a decade since its release
love almost half of the album whilst liking the remainder giving a score of 2.4 which means...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

fav:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

STEVE GOODMAN  "somebody elses troubles"

from the MH vinyl collection thread
Goodman's third studio album
originally released in 1972
his delivery, tone and style are similar to John Denver in places
a couple of novelty type tunes reminiscent of Dr Hook's style also
nothing bad on here
but three standouts for me: "the dutchman", "somebody elses troubles" and "dont do me any favors"
album ranks a decent 2.2 which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

fav of the three i named above:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.
