Flowers of Romance-Public Image Ltd.
The first song is starting to get on my nerves. It's just Johnny (who's voice I find pretty annoying) chanting over a repetitive drum beat. I had high expectations for this album, so I really hope it gets better fast

On the laptop.
Seventh album from UK Post-Punkers, released in 1992.
For some reason this band were either ignored or reviled by the UK music press. On the evidence of this album, that's a shame.
Good quality Alt-Rock, with plenty of strong hooks, although the Joy Division influence had evidently diminished somewhat by this stage in their career.
If I could have accessed either of their first two albums, I'd have gone for those, but We7 doesn't have them.
Good album that gets itself onto the Buy List.
AllMusic 4/5 stars.

Generally overshadowed by the two masterpieces that came before it, I still believe it is also a masterpiece in it's own right. A very different turn for the band, but the resuly is amazing. Pavement are the only band I know off who released three consecutive masterpieces

i-Pod listening in the garden this PM.
2002 side-project for Gibbons, the Portishead singist.
Due to Gibbon's distinctive voice, and the similarity in pace of the songs, this sounds not unlike Portishead, but the electronic Trip-Hop beats are absent, replaced with lots of acoustic guitars, and some Jazzy arrangements.
A lovely album, that comes across as one that will reward many repeat plays.
AllMusic 4/5 stars.
PS this is another for SteveO's slow music list, if it's not already on there...
