What Are You Listening To?

Holiday i-Pod listening.

Explaining the joys of this great band on MD is like casting pearls before swine, so I won't. I'll simply shout my love for their music from the rooftops for all I'm worth. Still singing the title song to myself, days after listening to this again...

Shut it, Crazyman...

Holiday i-Pod listening.

The much better of the two TH live albums.

Covers their best period over two discs, and has two versions of the sublime Psycho Killer.

Music Head Wrote:When I think underrated, I think chart success. Speaking for the U.S. Nick has never had that. The album posted (Murder Ballads) never even touched the Billboard 200. Out of 14 albums with the Bad Seeds, 9 of them have never made that chart. The highest charting was the last one, Dig Lazarus Dig, which made a showing at #64 here. I'm sure Nick has done much better in his homeland and even the U.K., and he is well respected by those in the industry, but as far as chart success in the states, Nick Cave is very underrated.

you beat me to the answer MH...was gonna say the same thing, Nick Cave has never really achieved more than a cult following here in Australia, has had a couple of big sellers but for the most part his albums generally sell well upon the week of release then drop from the charts fairly quickly, but they do sell in dribs and drabs on a cinsistant basis,,,much like Elvis Costello and Neil Young to name a couple of others.....
that said he is a hugely popular live act here when he returns to these shores to tour( he has lived in the UK for best part of 30 yrs now)

BON IVER - BON IVER (June 2011)

I thought I would give this record a listen since I had heard so much talk about it in a positive light and hey I love the cover .

Bon Iver is an Indie band from Wisconsin, USA and is led by singer songwriter frontman Justin Vernon. This is the problem....I do not like Vernon's low key strained whiney sounding vocals therefore I cannot endorse the album in my utmost honest opinion !

As I've stated previously if I don't like the vocals then I don't like the album or group ! Makes sense, right ?

The album is all about place names - Perth ( USA/Aus/Scotland/Canada)...I'm not sure. Even a song called Calgary is on here!
I guess the main thing that irritates me about this album is that I can't make out a damn word that Mr. Vernon is singing !!!!...lol. It would be more of an ambient noise vocalese record for me than anything else !

I am usually for the most part uncomfortable for bashing a musician's work since I admire all musicians (I can only muster up a few basic chords on guitar). However this one was totally disappointing for me ...oh well... the cover is cool !

All Music - surprised to see their rating of 2.5/5 !...I guess I'm not the only one ! I'll give it a generous 3/5 because I respect all music makers !!!!
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!

Hoping it was the mood. That was bad. That was really bad. Not even instrumentals or covers. Out of my 3500 vinyls, that has to be in the bottom 50. There is one cover. Patsy Cline had to be rolling over. Worst track by far. This was a Rhode Island/Boston band that shows two albums to their credit. This is the first. A minor hit (#86) of Anywhere With You must have been worth a follow up to Mercury records. The Hardest Thing was also released as a single but failed to chart. Those two tracks are the only ones that got a passing grade for me. Self described as a cross between Gene Autry and Devo. Vocals are traded off between founding members Bob Holmes and Trish Milliken. Bob should never have even tried. Trish has a Debbie Harry voice, and her tracks are very Blondie sounding. No showing on the charts for either this album or their follow up in 1986. The band was dropped by the label after that one.

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Walking After Midnight

THE HORRIBLE CROWES "elsie", cd, 2011.

i bought this one when it was released several months ago and only got round to giving it a thorough bit of airtime lately.
this is a side project between Gaslight Anthem's vocalsit Brian Fallon and his guitar technician Ian Perkins.
so it is not a Fallon solo outing, nor is it a remake of The Gaslight Anthem as the music is a lot lighter than their Jersey Rockers(new genre!),
a lot of the tracks have a distinct 'familliar' feel and sound to them(much like a lot of the Oasis back catalogue).
Fallon definately shows he has a placid quieter side to his vocals than the raspy, raw edged sound we are accustomed to with GA. but he does at times slip into familliar territory.
i guess this one could be said to be similar in feel to some of the mellow Springsteen moments.
surprisingly though, at times, he comes close to a U2 feel of their lighter moments, such as "with or without you" and "all i want is you" type material or INXS "never tear us apart" also.
overall, there is nothing bad on here with almost half the tracks already falling into the "love" range. pretty hard to single out one track as my favourite as tracks 4,5,7 & 8 are worthy contenders, but on this occasion ive picked #7.
only four albums into his career, and Fallon can hold his head high knowing he has done a bloody good job with all four!

I LOVE THIS ALBUM
