did metalica come out with a new album this year

No problem at all. It's what I do...these days anyway lol

Yeah, they're gifted when it comes to songwriting, as well as playing. And I've enjoyed everything they've done, besides St. Anger. With that release, plus that song they did with the rappers, I thought it was pretty much over for them lol

But I watched some of the Mission Metallica stuff, and heard some good riffs, then got Death Magnetic as soon as it was available to me, and I wasn't disappointed one bit. To get the full feel of it, I'd suggest listening to the album all the way through in its entirety. I've done it several times, and I'm sure to do it many more times. It's already one of my favorite albums of all-time, and that's not easily done with me. It's just so great, and so much better than St. Anger. I'm proud of them for it.

And yeah, I'd do almost anything to see them Live, now that they're doing well again.

The production is pretty crappy.

I guess that I could try giving the album another spin, but my problems with it had little to do with the composition of the music itself. Lyrically, I thought that it was pretty cheesy and weak. The vocals were less than impressive as well but I know most people don't listen to Metallica for the vocals.

I have all the 5 first albums, but I didn't really liked Load, Reload and St-Anger. But I was curious about this kind of "returning to roots", and the returning to the same old good logo, so I bought it without listening to it first.

I was really pleased finally. I can say it's a good and strong album. Of course, don't expect Master of Puppet 2, but this new album really worth a listen. There was some efforts to do great and that show.

Got everything by Metallica. St Anger was, after the initial rush, (hey new Metallica) a big let down. Load and Reload are nicely crafted heavy rock albums, a nice change of direction too after the Black album which almost lost me as a Metallica fan ( I hate Enter Sandman with a passion, that really is cheesy)

So that said DM is a true return to form.. that's form, not the old days which maybe is the problem. Riff heavy and signature changes galore make for interesting listening, and please note all Metallica lyrics are always a little suspect

Please elaborate on that, I really wonder what you mean.

sorry t'was a generalised observation, not intended as a response to your post, I just feel their lyric writing is a little predictable at best and often downright cheesy or unimaginative at worst.

I agree with you about this. I basically speak french, so I never really listened to their lyrics, it is more the music that is good. But I must agree that the more I understood English, the more I realized that their lyrics were not really great, a little cheesy as you say!

now I know English isn't your mother tongue, I'll do what all us English do and just speak louder!Confusedmile:

Couldn't agree with you more. I think that looking at Death Magnetic lyrically demonstrates this fact quite clearly.
