100% behind you with this one SteveO...all of Lennon's solo material still sounds good today...well, except for one song which i have never liked!

DAVID BOWIE "diamond dogs", cd...1999 remastered album.

firstly,i have not heard any Bowie albums released since 1985, but of the others there are only three that i can truly say that i do like...Ziggy Stardust,Lodger, and Let's Dance.....along with the obvious compilation sets(DB is a great singles artist, but as an album's man he just dont cut it for me!)

ok...
this was apparently to be a concept album based around George Orwell's classic novel "1984"...
but somewhere along the way Bowie lost his way when writing it and it turned into a mish-mash of half arsed tracks with no cohesion!
only two tracks here that rates in the "classic" Bowie mould in "rebel rebel", and the album track "rock n roll with me", as much as i like "diamond dogs"(the song), it is more in line with what the Stones should have done, a couple of other good tracks, but the majority is crap!...the spoken opening track and a stupid chant at the end of the album make it all the much worse....
IMO Bowie completely lost his way with this one...no foresight and no originality whatsoever for my liking!

I DISLIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: 1984
best track: rebel rebel

all this said...David Bowie, is in my opinion, one of the greatest "singles" makers in the history of rock and roll!

I'm guessing Imagine

"Imagine there's no heaven" 0R "Woman I can hardly express, my inner feelings of thoughtlessness" - lovely lyrics, don't you like them CH? The whole arrival and effect of Yoko I don't think helps many peoples opinions, but we will never truly know I guess. Maybe we should ask the "Beatles" expert Gryphon for an opinion? It would be an interesting read.

The Marble Index-Nico

Come to think of it, I probably should have posted this in the folk thread

Whatever, brilliant album, very dark and features some very avant garde arrangements

I've also been listening to Frank Zappa's "Freak Out". Something about it, I don't know. I'll expand upon it later
