Would you listen to music in a language you didn't understand?
#21
Fairness in conversation...I listen to English music all the time and I don't understand it. But yes, I will listen to music in a foreign language if it is awesome. This one is my all-time favorite. It's the Lord's Prayer in Swahili...gives me goose bumps every time.

I assume you mean not understanding the colloquialisms by English artists?

If so, I understand you completely...thats why some artists are huge in some countries and not others.
Its also why country music never really caught on in the UK or early rap like the real gangster rappers never took off outside the US.
Surf music never really caught on bigtime in the UK in the 1960s
Paul Weller,Billy Bragg,Ian Dury,Madness,Specials,The Beat etc never caught on in the US because their lyrics were 'english' dealing with English subject matter....

Americans don't understand British humour in comedy neither and likewise US humour didn't take off in the UK neither until Seinfeld...because lets face it, Seinfeld was generic humour,it was different from what came previously from the US

If I am not going to know what is being said during the entire song, then forget it.

God bless you always!!!

Gregorian chants in Latin are so fun.

I like to consider the human voice as an instrument so not understanding the lyrics isn't a problem for me. Perhaps the best example of this is Lisa Gerrard, no one could understand her lyrics because she sings in a language she made up

One hasn't got to go to Wogga-wogga Land to find an utterly foreign language--Welsh resembles no other language yet is (forcedly) part of the UK:

Every Welshman I know is happy to be part of the UK as are everyone I know from Scotland and Ireland....

Its only the minority Nationalists who scream out to recede from England...
Anyone with any brains knows that those small-fry countries will lose more than they will gain with Independence.

I'm sure there's millions of Americans on the South who still believe they were forcibly coerced into joining The Union.....

Also on a doco I saw a few months ago about Alaska, the people there don't want any part of being a State of the USA, so much so that they partitioned Washington a while ago, strange things then began to happen to the leaders in the :free alaska' movement....
Their houses were burned, several disappeared, others had their brakelines cut....
Stinks of an FBI,CIA conspiracy to me.

I listen to French music quite a bit! There are three FM French radio stations in Canada which is an official bilingual country. I have a working knowledge of Francais and I can carry on a simple conversation in French. Overall any language doesn't hinder me from discovering new sounds and emotions!

I learnt French and German at school in the UK back in the day....
I don't speak them now though and understand even less of those languages...
the most I can do is count to a thousand in German(not that that will do me any good!) and count to one hundred in French...

Dani's mum comes from Seychelles so she obviously speaks fluent French

have you ever been to The Seychelles(or even Reunion/Madagaskar) on your travels Jerome???

....and Reunion comes up right at the time they've possibly found debris from Flight MH 370 over there.
