HOZIER "hozier" cd, 2014

"sedated"..........................#3 IRE
"work song".....................#43 IRE..............................#120 US
"someone new"................#13 IRE...#19 UK...#24 AU...#108 US..#90 CAN

debut album from this Irish folky/soul/blues/alt rock artist....
you can hear the blues/soul and folky sounds happening here but not the alt rock, but thats what the experts call him....
I bought this on the strength of his debut single "take me to church" single which sounded unlike anything else going
around at the moment....
most of the album does have that same feel to it, so if you like that song youll like the album....
only problem with this one really is that the songs are too similar at times and that does get a bit monotonous but overall...

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS "let love in" cd, 1994

career stats:
studio albums................15
singles..........................31

this album................................#8 AU...#12 UK
singles:
"do you love me?"...................#62 AU....#68 UK
"loverman"...........................................#88 UK
"red right hand"......................#62 AU....#68 UK

I was getting withdrawl symptoms withput Cave so this one came to the top of the pile out of order to satisfy the need...!
Nick and The Bad Seeds' seventh album and incidently their first to crack the top 10 in Australia....
typical Cave sounds on this one...'
mainly piano based tracks with a couple of grungy Birthday Party type tracks thrown in the mix...
I don't like the grungy ones on this album...theyre far too messy for my liking on this one....
its a shame they let this album down because its a very good album aside from those....
theres two version of "do you love me?" on this album, its the same song just with different arrangements, I
prefer the track that iopens the album and that one was issued as the single...
fact is, you either like or loathe Cave theres no inbetween, to me he sounds a lot like Cohen on this one....

ALEX LLOYD "watching angels mend" cd, 2001

career stats:
studio albums............6
singles.....................26

this album....................#2 AU...#22 NZ
singles:
"downtown"..................#75 AU
"amazing".....................#14 AU...#1 NZ
"green".........................#25 AU
"everybody's laughing"...#33 AU
"bus ride".....................no chart action

Aussie Alex's second solo set....
a vastly different sounding album to his superb debut "black the sun" which was more alt...
this one is pure pop, lots of well crafted tunes on this one and more raido friendly than than the debut set....
I was surprised to find the big his "amazing" only made it to #14 here, must have spent a long time in the charts though...
its also the best track on here, written for his then recently departed mother....
Alex played all instruments on his debut and produced that one also....
on this one he plays most instruments but still produced it....
I was also surprised to find when I read the linear notes that Neil Finn's wife Sharon sang backing vocals on this album...
all up a fantastic album that he never matched again(his next couple of followup albums were good, the fifth lousy and I never heard the latest effort)

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

worst track: trigger

First Aid Kit, Swedish indie folk Americana sister duo! Tremendous vocals and harmonies. I love this tribute song to Emmylou Harris who is in the audience! Being from Sweden they are however very fluent in the English language and singing, not a glint of an accent!

The Lonely Wild, an indie folk/rock band from LA. They released their debut album, The Sun as it Comes, two years ago and are busy working on their second, Chasing White Light.

This is what they say of themselves “The Lonely Wild carved out their sonic niche pulling from 1960’s western cinema, Laurel Canyon vocal stylings, and the adventurous spirit of The British Invasion.” Others have mentioned Calexico, Ennio Morricone and Fleet Foxes. I’d agree with all the above. Not crazy about every single thing, but they might just have something that’s a little different … and at the very least they write interesting songs, have an impressive musical skillset, a fairly distinguishable sound, and have actually thought about the lyrics, which is usually a good sign. Curious to hear the new release and see how it shapes up.

And the first single – which has a big hook, IMHO!!

sorry, im just not a fan of Roxy Music or Bryan Ferry in general...
I have Avalon and from memory I don't like it.

I think Jealous Guy was the best thing they ever did.
