[TD="class: common_desc, colspan: 2"] 2003, Bobby Hatfield
of The Righteous Brothers was found dead in hotel room in Michigan 30 minutes before he was due on stage, aged 63. The autopsy report from the Kalamazoo County Medical Examiner gave the opinion that Hatfield suffered a sudden, unexpected death due to acute cocaine toxicity. The Righteous Brothers had the 1965 UK & US No.1 single 'You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin', and the 1990 UK No.1 single 'Unchained Melody' first released in 1965.
here's their signature tune...

Heitor Villa-Lobos died on this day in 1959 at the age of 72. He is quite possibly Brazilâs pre-eminent âclassicalâ composer and one of my favourites. There just seems to be an extra dimension of warmth in his work, and depth of expression. One of the most imaginative things he did was to create a one-page piece of music named âMelodia da Montanhaâ; simply explained, he traced an outline of his beloved Serra da Piedade mountain range from a photograph, transposed that onto a graph, and from there, transcribed it into musical notes which more or less follow the silhouetted patterns of the hills. (He also created another more complex work based on the New York City Skyline, of course, as one would be inclined to do if experimenting with such things! - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odjN9-xdTd4.)
This is a fairly concise synopsis for those who may wish to know more - http://www.claviercompanion.com/2012-04-...a-montanha
And here is that aforementioned piece, which is for piano â (and which is played by the author of the linked write-up above, I think) â¦

aged 37.
suicide was ruled out as a cause but due to the belt around his neck and the position of the
body it was suspected a case of auto eroticism gone wrong(same thing happened to actor David Carradine)
now, I was never a fan of INXS, I either love or hate their songs(no inbetween), and as a live act their performances
were either brilliant or the worst shows ever depending on the night...
so no consistency with their records or their live shows....
but this is one of my favourite INXS singles(and theres not that many in the list!)

Paul Motian died on this day in 2011. He was a jazz drummer, percussionist and composer. Allmusic refers to him as âA masterfully subtle drummer and a superb coloristâ. Wiki says more - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Motian
Coincidentally, yesterday, I listened to the very last album he made (at the age of 80), with Bill Frisell, Petra Haden (one of Charlieâs triplet daughters) and Thomas Morgan. It sounded deceptively simple to these fairly uninitiated (at least when it comes to serious jazz) ears, and I found myself listening through the whole thing quite easily â it was strangely seductive. I strongly suspect that this music will not appeal to too many others on this forum, but Iâm drawn in, especially, by the absence of strict timing rules and how that manages to work so well?! I will probably be listening to more in a similar vein.
This is an instrumental track from the Paul Motian Trioâs It Shouldâve Happened a Long Time Ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJeRp5TqV5s
And this the title track from The Windmills of Your Mind
