CRADLE OF FILTH "cruelty and the beast" cd, 1998.

these guys have been championed by SteveO for some time here at MD, thought i'd give them a go and last time i saw Corey i asked about them and he reccomended this one...
not sure exactly why i like this album as its full of those indecipherable growly,evil sounding vocals that Death Metal contains...and also the same angst-ridden,chaotic guitar,bass and drum work of the same genre....
but something about this is different to Death Metal, these are also lush orchestrations,especially in the three short instrumentals, there are almost ethereal female vocals, and the lyrics( yes you need to read the lyric sheet whilst listening to understand what the hell they are so angry about), are quite intelligent and relal very good stories...
i feel there is a very Gothic style to these songs, very dark, brooding subject matter....as i said, i have no idea exactly why i like this album, but i do...and so does Dani, so SteveO, this gets the thumbs up from both of us!!!!

Can't believe these guys were still at it, as of 2005. Still sounding good on this 14th release. They would have to
have it down by this point. The lasy one to chart in the U.S. at a very weak #192, but the U.K. was still on board
though at #21. Single of the title track made the Mainstream Rock chart. The familiar lineup of Gillan, Blackmore,
Paice, Lord and Glover. Blackmore and Gillan had a falling out after the recording and Ritchie quit mid-tour,
replaced by Joe Satriani on tour, and Steve Morse for the next album. Ritchie didn't appreciate the re-working
Gillan did on some tracks. Sounds like the old DP to me, but most thought they had gone soft by this point. Metal
had to move on I guess. No love tracks and a couple of bombs. Not a great album by any means, but it did the job if
that's what you were into.

Great, Crazy Horse !!! ...I only have one album by CoF and I can truthfully say not a band I'd listen to on a regular basis !!!...lol

The lead singer, coincidentally named Dani, is unbelievable in the octaves and pitch he can exude from his vocal cords...I think they'd be a kick just to see and listen to that in a live concert !!!!..lol

DP were here last February on Super Bowl Sunday. I didn't attend but from all accounts they were fabulous ! No Ritchie Blackmore or Ian Gillan...replaced by Steve Morse and Glen Hughes ( I think ) respectively.

Not bad for a mad man. Typical Ozzy on his fifth solo album. Nothing great but only two of the eight that suck.
Double platinum at this point, so Ozzy had his followers. This is my only one so obviously I wasn't one of them. A
hidden track was on the cd release. That was the lure back then. Three singles released, but don't see where any
made a dent, although the album reached #13. Miracle Man was a nice return jab at the tv preachers that had taken
their shots at Ozzy. Favorite is Bloodbath In Paradise, another good one about the Manson murders, and a very nice
live clip for it. Fire In The Sky and Tattooed Dancer were the weak ones. Never as good as the Sabbath stuff for me,
but it'll do in a pinch.
