DORIS DAY  aged 97

complications from pneumonia:

actress, singer, philanthropist, animal welfare/rights campaigner

she released almost a 100 singles in her career including 5 that reached #1 on the Billboard charts,
she also released in excess of 30 studio albums and starred/appeared in countless movies of all genres
including romantic comedies, musicals and thrillers, she was a versatile actress and singer:
these stats make her a legitimate music star/icon IMO

some of her songs were novelty, others were serious
heres my favourite as a tribute to her:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

A very sad farewell to Johnny Clegg - the whole nation will be in mourning - heartbroken. He had the ability to cross so many divides - one of the planet's really good, brave and beautiful souls - a true legend.

We knew this was inevitable, he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2015 - he even went on tour while in remission, to say goodbye to his many fans, to acknowledge them, but it's still devastating news. I'm so glad there was tribute paid to him while he was with us and I'm sure he knew how beloved and respected he was - I hope so - he was a humble guy - never got above himself. Thoughts with his family - he's made his crossing and may he rest in peace.

That tribute - musos from all over South Africa - from all walks of life and genres, including his son, Jesse, and a few more beside - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKWEEpA0HkY

A great loss. Pure genius. Glad you posted the stereo version as opposed to the mono one. Makes a huge difference. If ever there was a unique artist in the musical world he was it. RIP Johnny Clegg. The world is a poorer place without you.

cause of death: cancer

lead singer of Aussie post-punk/alt-rock banc Celibate Rifles back in the 1980s.
I was not a big fan as you tended to either be a fan of theirs or Hoodoo Gurus, I chose the Gurus...

but in hindsight they weren't too bad, i'd probably pick up a compilation from a discount bin if I saw one

their debut single from 1983:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

not an original member but he was there from the late 1970s through to their demise in 1996:

their biggest hit during his time and the keys are an integral part of the song:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

C.O.D  complications from heart valve surgery

U.S Rock singer, released a dozen album, 30 charting singles in US/Canada between 77-19.

I know nothing about the dude but it appears he was popular for about ten minutes
between breakfast on a saturday morning and dinner on a sunday evening back in the day

no links because I wouldn't know where to start (I may know a few of his tracks if I heard them but Wiki didn't jog my memory)
