8. The Beatles â âShe Loves Youâ. ***
Finally, the biggest of The Beatlesâ singles n the UK.
It couldâve been so different â Maccaâs dad suggested they sing, âShe loves you, yes, yes, yes,â..
deserves to be where it is IMO, is was pure Brit-pop in its most simplistic form!

7. Frankie Goes To Hollywood â âRelaxâ. ***
Banned by radio and the video was banned by the BBC as it was rocketing up the charts...
Trevor Hornâs monster production and Holly Johnsonâs filthy swagger were destined for nothing less than huge success and with a thumping bass beat...great stuff!
there are two videos for this track, the initially banned version set in a gay club with its less than subtle homosexual overtones, and a tv friendly band version...
personally, i think the second version adds nothing to the song, much prefering the banned version(see below)

6. Boney M â âRivers of Babylonâ/âBrown Girl In The Ringâ. ***
Wham!âs cunning switcheroo had its roots in Boney M flipping the two sides of their million-seller when âRivers Of Babylonâ was sinking out of the top 20.
A quick re-branding and it was a #1 hit.

5. John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John â âYouâre The One That I Wantâ. ***
All it took was a bit of leather and lycra to persuade Danny that Sandy was the girl for him. How heartwarming.
this is the second hit from Grease to enter the UK's top50 selling singles list and rightfully so IMO

4. Wings â âMull Of Kintyreâ/âGirls Schoolâ.***
this was the first single to sell 2Million copies in the UK...Macca was now outselling The Beatles!
simple sing-a-long track containing two chords/2notes...
Denny Laine recieved writing credits here, not that he had anything to do with the song, but he was on the point of bankrupcy and Macca gave him a bit of the credits to help him out...i wonder if he'd have done so if he knew how bug this one would be(i doubt it!)...
single was flipped over in the US and "girls school"(a rocker) became the "a" side"
