Dire Straits - Communiqué

I like the almost stripped back, laconic sounds on the album and can hear those rattlesnakes in "Once Upon a Time in the West" ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqw6aFrlGEE - brilliant IMHO. Maybe we're all living in some or other version of the wild wild west - plenty of cowboys around here abusing horsepower!!

i was thinking of revisiting the Dire Straits studio albums now the Lennon studio albums have been revisited...

but i must say that Communiqué is my least favorite album of theirs..

DIRE STRAITS "dire straits" vinyl/cd 1978

their debut of six...
finger pickin' jazzy, bluesy story telling soft rock should never have got anywhere in 1978 as half the world was embracing disco, the other half punk-rock...
however, the infectious tones of Knopfler's guitar resonated the world over...
sold an overly impressive 10.3 million physical sales over the years and rightfully so.
an excellent debut album showcasing what was to come...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

still a favorite  after all these years, and when he had hair, LOL!

Knopfler's guitar shines through as expected but theres something lacking,
i cant put my finger on it but theres something about the album that irks me...
its passable, sure, but theres very little that is memorable about it, in fact, its the only one of their albums i do not deliberately select to play.
album has sold 6.9 million copies since its release, their least successful album in terms of units sold...

first two album covers were great
and then we get to.....

their third...
their first real masterpiece IMO...
seven tracks, loving six, disliking one (les boys) which just doesnt fit with the overall feel of the album IMO...
a nice 7 million sales and the juggernaut has really started to take off....

their fourth...
as perfect as a rock album gets IMO...
their second in a trio of masterpieces...
7.5 million worldwide sales and the band are yet to make it big in the USofA, stupid Americans!
album only made it to 'gold' status over there....
love four of the five tracks on here, liking the fifth (private investigations)....
