MAYER HAWTHORNE  "man about town"  cd, 2016:

fourth studio album...
white guy with the sound/soul of a  black dude...
in fact, I never knew he was white until I saw a clip of him a couple of years ago...
real 1970s r+b/soul/funk on this album with cool falsetto voice to boot!...
a good album overall

from the album:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

KENDRICK LAMAR  "to pimp a butterfly"  cd,  2015

rapper...
third album....
purchased because it ended up #1 on the "end of year" lists with
just about every publication for the year...
lots of foul language...
not that I need to type it because we all know what words im referring to,right?...
how the hell this ended up being the supposed "best album of '15 " I will never know...
a piece of crap!

from the album:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

NAS  "greatest hits"  cd  2007:

rapper from Brooklyn, NY.....
has released ten album with one on the way according to Wiki...
fourteen tracks on this compilation...
only four or five with featured artists...
the one thing I did notice was the lack of foul language...
it is there but its in context of the song and not overused like most others in the genre...
songs have a social conscience element to them like 2pac and Coolio...
no generic beats on here, sounds like real instruments, most of which have a jazzy feel...
a very, very good album IMO, worth a listen if you get a spare hour at some point...

from the album:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

JIMMY BARNES  "soul searchin' "  cd,  2016:

sixteenth solo set from Aussie rocker Barnesy....
his nineth aussie #1 album as a soloist also...
the fourth of a series of covers album covering the classic soul songs of Atlantic/Stax labels...
he usually does pretty good with the soul covers IMO, and that's from a huge fan of 1960s soul/R+B....
Joe Bonamassa and Steve Cropper turn up on this one as to are The Memphis Boys who played on just about
every original soul track recorded in Memphis back in the day...
they even played on Presley's "suspicious minds" which is probably why that one is also covered here...
incidently, that non-soul track happens to be the best thing on here...
all up a pretty good album considering its a covers set..

from the album, the very good  cover of the Presley classic:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE  "evil empire"  cd,  1996:

second of four album for this American rap-metal band...
only one I own,  bought from a discount bin a while ago...
more than worth discount bin status IMO...
political and social commentary on here, lyrically not as hard hitting as
Public Enemy, but still cohesive...
quite a good album, I like it, but I wouldn't buy any more unless they were in a discount bin:

from the album, my favourite track:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

RATES  "untold"  cd,  2016:

Aussie white rapper....
cant find any info but I believe this was his debut album...
none of the stereotypical rap/hip hop BS here...
nowhere near as much foul language as the US rappers...
some cuss words which usually begin with a "c" or an "f"...
its rap, haters gonna hate no matter what...
me, I love this album...

from the album track #1 on the album:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

JIMMY BARNES  "soul deep"  cd,  1991

Aussie rocker Barnes' fifth solo studio set...
his fifth straight solo #1 album here also....
a covers set of r+b/soul classics...
wasn't aware this was/is his biggest seller, nine times platinum here....
two top ten singles off it also, one a duet with Australia's "king of pop" John Farnham...
this was the first of four albums in this vein, and it is the best one of those four...
love the album as he shows total respect for r+b classics IMO!

from the album, the first single, cant believe how young he looks in the video!

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

GRACE  "FMA"  cd,  2016:

Aussie singer....
eighteen when she released this, her debut set....
title, modern abbreviation for Forgive My Attitude....
she was bought up on a musical diet of of Nina Simone, Lesley Gore, Dusty etc....
her debut single was a cover of Lesley's "you don't own me"...
that one sounds almost as good as the original, even the little rap part halfway through is okay...
he voice is gravelly/raspy, has an almost Amy quality to it in places...
girl could be a fantastic artist is the 'men in suits' don't try to mold her into somethin' she aint...
love this album, great stuff

a live version of the Lesley Gore song

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

HILLTOP HOODS  "walking under stars"  cd,  2014:

Aussie hip-hop/rappers....
seventh album, I own at least five as a guess (without checking)....
also their latest album....
very little foul language with these guys but the odd F-Bomb does get dropped...
a good album...

the title track:

"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.
