IMO Beatles were the best as I was not alive at that time but what I heard about them is just awesome.
They were the god of concerts.
Concerttour also salute them in one blog that they are just amazing with their performance.

I believe that perhaps eight years together was sufficient! If they kept releasing new albums eventually some of them would become mediocre! That's what Paul was afraid of!

i dont think any reunion would have produced a 'real' Beatle album at any point as Paul,John and George all had their own unique solo sounds at that point, and Ringo, well, he basically went along with the others anyway....
lets face it....
the last three Beatle albums were 'fractured' pieces of work when you look objectively...
as much as i love "the white album"...it really was a messy affair, lots of bits slapped together., and all of them bitching about eachothers tracks and saying "im not playing on that track because theres no solo for me","thats not a guitarist's song" etc etc
"let it be".....recorded and left on the shelf for a year or so because the band couldnt agree on final mixes etc
"abbey road"....two totally different sides of music, the side John wanted with songs and the Paul side that was a montage/collage of music that melded into one lengthy track. and they did that like that because John and Paul couldnt agree...
another disagreement between John and Paul....
both wanted to go on tour, John wanted to go back to filling stadiums, Paul wanted to slip in throught he backdoor playing smaller venues...
a Beatle reunion would never have worked in a hundred years with two strong minded artistically creative minds like John and Paul both wanting to stamp their authority on the band, then of course we have George who towards the end of the band come into his own as a great writer who also wanted a bigger slice of his material being included on albums....
its best they finished where and when they did IMO before they became embarrassment parodies of themselves,like,IMO, the Rolling Stones became.
i think the closest thing any of them made as solo artists to sounding like what a 1970s Beatle album could have been was Macca's "band on the run"/"venus and mars" albums.
the facts were that Paul and john couldnt bare to be in the same room as one another and when they were there were often punches thrown....
funny how Paul glosses over that now like it didnt happen isnt it????
at the end of the day...what happened, happened for a reason and what we are left with is an astonishingly good catalogue of albums and individual tracks that most other musicians strive to achieve(except fot the "yellow submarine" album)....
so lets not dwell on the 'could have beens' the "would have beens" and the "should have beens" and be happy for what they left us as a band!

Great summation Crazy! I agree wholeheartedly. The power, attraction and popularity of The Beatles was largely due to the fact that they wrote great songs with gorgeous melodies and harmonies in the standard pop rock vein as well as songs that had an edge but still appealed to the music loving public! I have never bought into the silly and ridiculous argument that they were in the right place at the right time! Their songs still ring true to this day, 45 years later!
As for The Rolling Stones, great catalogue, to a certain point, of songs in the Rhythm and Blues category. You can't really compare them to The Beatles, different style of music for the most part! Very successful also in pop music! Again they are very popular even today, sell out huge arenas and their signature song (I Can't Get NO) Satisfaction is still in the limelight on commercials etc...possibly the most recognisable if not the most popular riff in pop history! The Beatles' intro riff to Day Tripper would be up there also!
As an aside that is somewhat unrelated, sorry I am babbling for a change ...lol.. I know you dislike genres Crazy, but I am beginning to think that best album recommendations and lists should only be categorised by their genre! There are thousands of bands and artists out there now, many slip through the cracks because their music doesn't appear on the pop charts. There should be a year's end Rap Hip Hop chart, probably is I am sure, an Indie Pop chart, a Smooth Jazz chart, an Alternative Country chart, you get the drift...

Well it's close to the end of another quiet Sunday. Time to relax since my favourite hockey team....is losing again!...lol...I watched the unforgettable Paul McCartney concert last night that I saw in the flesh at the Halifax Commons on 11 July 2009. It was a perfect sunny summer day...the only one we had all summer! I was amazed and bewildered with the sheer brilliance of Paul's music with The Beatles and on his own!
That brings me to his last studio album New ! I am listening to it as I type and it is one of his best albums in quite awhile! All Music rendered a rating of 4.5 stars and it is simply another great album by the master tunesmith! Oh yes, Autotune is used but who cares! This album was overlooked since its' release in October of 2013. Fifty two minutes of fourteen new songs, fabulous from start to finish...listening on headphones to capture the delicious nuances! Paul's concert band is here...such a splendid quartet!
