'60's West Coast Jazz TV show
#1
The Left Coast has a deserved rep for emphasizing the cooler, less frenetic side of Jazz in the '50's and '60's (Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Charlie Byrd) though they could burn when it suited. Keyed by Ron Weinstock's top-notch blog, I bring you stuff from Frankly Jazz which showcased the best from all over the Southland and elsewhere. Dig it, Sistahs and Bros:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EY4In7p91Vw << Howard Rumsey (the bassist; still alive @97) is important enough to Jazz in LA and everywhere, I'm linking: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Rumsey << Have a look; this guy is amazing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaRCkR_arAI << There's 35 vids on the FJ Channel
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZ5HcGI5IPA << They had singers too
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBvHv0VNz6o << Always dug this tune << From when they had "Jazz" in their name
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5KJhX2uDoM << What a master of 6 strings!

NOTE: Putting this together is as much fun as I've had in awhile--had to listen to all 35, didn't I?

Indeed. Look at who passed through the Lighthouse All-Stars---and all that left (with Mr. Rumsey's blessing) were replaced by Young Lions...and over and over. One of the better training schools ever in how to make your music better, how to do biz, how to conduct yourself, etc., etc.--the very equal of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers
