Quarta 330 - Bleeps From Outer Space from the 5 years of Hyperdub compilation [Hyperdub, 2009]

The compilation, out this month, is two disks. The first features new songs, including the first new song from Burial since the Moth/Wolf Cub 12". The second disk pulls classics from the first five years of the record label. I'm really digging it so far.

Shackleton - Moon Over Joseph's Burial from Three EPs LP [Perlon, 2008]

I'm really excited about this album. Now that Shackleton and Appleblim's Skull Disco label is over Shackleton has moved to Berlin. He leaves behind dubstep for techno. But it is still Shackleton, so there's still lots of low end sounds, weird samples and no real 4/4 kick drum.

Gossip - Music For Men - 2009



Maybe not. Still not even sure what the term means. What I heard sounds like what I think it should mean, and I don't get to put much here, so here we are. Three (or 4?) piece from Arkansas with their 4th studio release. Making their mark in the U.K. with Standing In The Way Of Control off of their previous effort, which I grew to like, and that may happen here, but as of now, nothing on here grabbed me. In fact some of it pushed me away.

I do not like this album.

Aoki Takamasa - Rn3-09 from RN Rhythm-Variations [Raster Noton, 2009]

This is his first set of productions for the Raster Noton imprint... 'RN-Rhythm-Variations' explores body-enveloping digital rhythms reminding us of SND's autistic funk rewired with the hi-brow hip-hop swing of Frank Bretschneider. The succinctly titled 'RN2-09 PT1 + PT2' may be of most interest to any DJ's due to the 130bpm tempo setting and heavily swung robo-step rhythms, crafting irresistibly funky patterns from the sheerest digital processing, before 'RN3-09' settles down into a bass-shaped blue groove reminding us of Farben if he had a stronger taste for licks of caustic digital noise. On the flip 'RN4-09' concentrates on a heavily swung and Bretschneider-style hiphop rhythm with cyber-squalls of distortion, while 'RN5-09' sounds like a Tin Man track reprocessed by NHK. ...comes highly recommended to any fans of Autechre, Alva Noto or Pan Sonic.

Yes, I imagine the music may be rather alien to those not exposed to any similar music. I myself love it. I'm listening to more of it right now.
