What Are You Listening To?
back to the Sonic Youth post a couple o post above this one:

I have three Sonic Youth albums...quite eclectic at times...!
they also happen to be one of Neil Young's favourite bands of the last twenty five years.
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..."  -  Me 2014.

SNOW PATROL "fallen empires" cd, 2011.

career stats:
studio albums.......6
singles................28

this album...............#3 UK.....#24 AU.....#27 NZ...#5 US
singles:
"called out in the dark"...........#11 UK...#75 AU...#35 NZ...#78 US
"this isn't everything you are"..#40 UK
"new York".................................................. ................#102US
"in the end"..........................#19 UK
"lifeling".............................no charted action.

sixth album rom these Irish alt-rockers....
I only own one other by them, Eyes Open,
I like that one more than this one....
this one stars off well, some decent alt rock tunes, then tails off into a lot of ballads, too many or my liking overall...
album sounds more sterile and formula driven than Eyes Open,
but its still a good album...
im surprised the opening track, which is my favourite, wasn't issued as a single...it should have been...
all up, still a reasonably good album even if fourteen tracks is a bit too long.
especially when the instrumental and the one where they basically hum along with the tune were filler!
I should invest in their other albums because when these guys are good, theyre very, very good.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: berlin
best track: i'll never let go

I vaguely remember Spin Doctors...I never liked them.

as for RHCP....
I have a couple of studio albums, Stadium Arcadium(double disc set) is the best, but still filler on it IMO...
heard several of their early albums and didn't like them at all...
I also have a compilation...
I love it, theyre a great singles band IMO.

vocalist, Anthony, released an autobiography a few years ago called "scar tissue", one of the best autobiographies I have ever read.

THE KILLERS "sawdust" cd, 2007

career stats:
studio albums.....4
singles..............27
compilations......2

this album.....#12 US...#6 AU...#10 CAN...#7 UK
singles:
"shadowplay"....#68 US...#49 CAN...#115 UK
"tranquilize"...................#59 CAN.....#13 UK

not a studio album this time round but their first compilation...
not even a hits compilation but a compilation of "B" sides and let over tracks rom recording sessions...
the lead off track is a duet with Lou Reed,
elsewhere there are three covers...Joy Division's "shadowplay", Kenny Rogers' "ruby, dont take your love to town" and probably
the biggest surprise is a cover of Dire Straits' "romeo and Juliet"...
there is nothing wrong with any of these tracks, they could have ALL been on a studio album at some point, which shows the class o this band.
their Kenny and DS covers are superb....a testament to this band and their vocalist Brandon Flowers...
a slower version of "sams town" on this one, its still cool, and a remix of "mr.brightside", still okay but not really needed IMO.
my favourite track has a distinct Bowie feel happening( Bowie as in the 'lets dance' era)...
I have all four studio albums by these guys and the best of set, and this album is as good as any of their studio albums IMO....
well worth getting if youre a fan, and who wouldn't be, theyre the best band in the world in the last twenty years IMO.
i'll add the links for the Kenny and Dire Straits covers if anyone is interested in them...

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

worst track: mr.Brightside (remix)
best track: where the white boys dance
