DAVID BOWIE "outside" cd, 1995

career stats:
studio albums......27
singles...............121

this album.................#8 UK...#55 AU...#37 NZ...#21 US
singles:
"the hearts filthy lesson".......#35 UK
"strangers when we meet"....#39 UK
"hallo space boy".................#12 UK...#36 AU

Mr. Bowie's nineteenth studio album....
first one with Brian Eno twiddling the knobs since 1979's "lodger".....
a concept album....
concept is about a dystopian society at the end of the twentieth century and the government of the
day has created an "art crime" bureau to combat artistic freedom...
songs are very similar sounding musically, Bowie sings most of them but there are a couple of spoken word
pieces with musical background....
as with 99% of concept albums the songs have no life of their own outside of the concept they were conceived in.
not a bad album, very ambitious of Bowie to put out something like this at that stage of his career...
Bowie has said since that this album is too long and should have been released as two album releases...

Re the Dandy Warhols: One of the band is apparently also in a band in (I think) Sydney, and he was interviewed a couple of weeks ago on local radio. Moonlighting, as it were.

Seems the Dandy Warhols have a very laid back approach to recording. Like, one album per decade is about right.

I think he said the band were from Portland, not Seattle.

Been listening almost non stop the last two days to Judy Dyble - Enchanted Garden (see "Bet you don't own this" thread).

I wont dispute that bob_32,
I didn't check Wiki for the facts or any other source or that matter, I just had something in the back of
my mind telling me Seattle...
just checked Wiki whilst writing this and Portland, Oregon is correct Sir.

WEEZER "weezer" aka 'the blue album' cd, 1994

career stats:
studio albums.......10

debut set from these alt rockers/power pop New Yorkers...
album produced by Cars' front man Ric Ocasek....
all their usual sounds on this one which means they had their quirky nuances
already happening early on in their career...
I cant help thinking that these guys remind me of Primus at times, but I don't like Primus
much and I like these guys...go figure that one out!?
a couple of duds on this one and nothing that really stands out, but ive still got another four of theirs to
post so we'll see how they eventuate at a future date...

IMAGINE DRAGONS "smoke and mirrors" cd, 2015

career stats:
studio albums...............2
singles........................13

this album.....................#1 US...#4 AU...#1 CAN...#4 NZ...#1 UK
singles:

"shots"..........................#75 US...#66 AU...#72 CAN...#91 UK

second album for ID....
failed to really sell/capitalise on the 7million plus sales of the debut "night visions"...
still has the same pseudo pop-rock sounds of the debut...
I think the songs are more radio friendly though, yet even the singles ailed to set the charts on fire....
very, very good album IMO, and one that appears to be under appreciated by the music masses....
theyre due another album out sometime this year, looking foreward to hearing it...

career stats:
studio albums........11
singles..................40

this album.......#9 US...#10 AU...#12 CAN...#5 NZ...#10 UK
singles:
"stray heart"...........no chart action!

studio album #10 for these guys...
these songs don't sound like Green Day to me...
different sound happening and vocals aren't recognisable at times neither...
not a bad collection of songs in this, the second part of a trilogy...
nothing great on here but still passable...
and BTW, my favourite track is one that does sound like Green Day...
worst track is called "fXXXk time", its full of obscenities which is not required IMO...
