I don't know what it is about this one and their fourth album "handwritten" that I don't like???
theyre the same band that played and wrote the first three albums???!
I cant say im growing tired of their soud because I liked Horrible Crowes album and Fallon's solo set...
only one track I love on here, and that is probably the one that saves it from not liking it!
very very average album, if you want a good place to start with these guys try their third album "American slang"
followed by the first two albums.

I don't know why I persisted with these guys for so long as their albums never seem to hit
the same heights that their singles do/did.
theres always around half of each album that I consider to be 'filler' and three or four absolutely
brilliant tracks (much like INXS for me)...
another anti-big business album with some anti mining themes also...
hello Peter Garrett!!!, mining is what drives the Australian economy followed by farming and construction!
but lets go bankrupt Peter and send even more of what we don't have overseas....idiot!
the guy is a crackpot, he seriously thinks that stopping industry and giving the whole country back to
Aborigines that we'll be better off.
that said, I do love watching Garrett perform in his videos and he is so unco-ordinated with his jerky dance moves!

I DO LIKE THIS ALBUM (but barely)

studio albums.....10

this album............#19 UK...#42 AU...#153 US

tenth album from this British rock/hard rock/gothic band...
biggest influences were Doors, Led Zep and Bowie....
I don't really hear Doors in their sound but there are certainly the Page style solos
and on occasion the Bowie-esque vocals, I also hear Eddie Vedder's vocal style/tones at times...
I know nothing of their previous releases so I cannot make comparisons, all I know is...
this a very very good solid rock album and....

Re Midnight Oil: They are one of several acts who I came to appreciate quite some time after the event. I picked up Diesel and Dust quite early on, but it was only a couple of years ago that I found myself tempted to acquire several others.

Blue Sky Mining is one of their best, and on that album my favourite is probably Bedlam Bridge. Those lyrics are very mysterious, and I still have not quite figured them out.

I bought "10 thru 1" back in the day, then "diesel and dust" followed by "Blue sky Mine" on either cassette or vinyl,
picked up the cds later on.

I used to love them back in the day but not anymore.

The The never reminded me of Midnight Oil, though I can see how you might find some similarities.

I have the Infected album, but I don't listen to it very often. It has four great tracks: Infected, The Mersey Beat, Heartland, and Slow Train to Dawn. Some of the other songs I find a little off-putting.

I have their first two albums on vinyl..."Soul Mining" and "Infected",
I have not heard either since probably the mid 1990s, maybe its about time I did!

Alt rock band from up around Seattle from memory....
this is a compilation covering their first decade of music at Capitol Records before they left and
formed their own label....
first time I heard this album I hated every track except one......."bohemian like you"...!
and gradually I got to like more of it with more listens....theses still nothing I love on it
as its still too messy sounding, ie: the music has no melody at times and the vocal tune doesn't
match the music, but its cool to listen to when you get your head around it...
not a bad album but I wouldn't go out and seek their back catalogue on the strength of these songs.

I LIKE THIS ALBUM
