"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight

https://www.amazon.com/1984-PHILLIPS-ANT...y+phillips Thanks CH.
OK, so I think Discs 1 and 2 contain the same material as the 2-disc set I own.
Of course their description does not really answer my question regarding the remastering, but if Steven Wilson has given his seal of approval I'm almost inclined to take that as a guarantee of production quality.
I'm slightly amused by their statement that the work is "influential". It's hardly an album you find in every second household; it's no Sgt Pepper or Dark Side of the Moon. Even amongst those who know Anthony Phillips, many of them seem to know only The Geese and the Ghost and perhaps one other. 1984 is very different from any other album of his. "Influential" in a small subset of the music making industry, possibly.
The reviews on Amazon of the edition I have, from 2008, pretty well sum up my opinion: magnificent melodies and use of synths, it would get 5 stars out of 5 were it not for the overpresence of the drum machines.

allmusic.com only gives an overview of the album as an album, not as a remastered set mate,
heres their overview of it if your interested: http://www.allmusic.com/album/1984-mw0000524357
other than that, I can only suggest you purchase it and hear the audio improvements for yourself?!?

UK new releases for this week (singles/albums/dvds)
ne of this week's big releases is Something Inside So Strong, the debut album release from 2015 Christmas chart toppers, The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir. After they beat Justin Bieber to scoop the Official Christmas #1 and had the man himself present them with their Number 1 Award... can they manage to scoop a second award - but this time a gold one?A big week for new singles sees Dizzee Rascal return with his first single in two years. Hype with Calvin Harris is the pair's fourth collaboration, their first for four years..
More collaborations come from Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliot with their Ghostbusters movie theme Ghostbusters (I'm Not Afraid) and Troye Sivan and Alessia Cara, the latter of which is a new guest feature on the former's track Wild.
In a big week for DVD and Blu-Ray releases, Tilda Swinton's A Bigger Splash makes its debut, Season 1 of Patricia Arquette's CSI: Cyber is now available and the final film from the late Robin Williams, Boulevard is released.

Sorry CH, I am not going to buy it and then possibly find that it was a waste of money because it's no improvement on my copy. I'm sure someone will review the new edition on Amazon fairly soon. I can wait, it's not as though there is any hurry.

"new" release albums/singles/music dvds in the UK this week:
This week sees the return of pop-punkers Blink-182, with their seventh album California. The record follows 2011's Neighbourhoods and marks the band's first with new member Matt Skiba. Other key album releases this week include Bat For Lashes' fourth album The Bride, and Metronomy could well earn their second Top 10 album on the Official Chart with their fifth album Summer 08.
Also out this week is the debut album from You Don't Own Me singer Grace, called FMA, and Delta Goodrem's fifth record Wings Of The Wild.
On the singles front, Fergie makes her long-awaited return with MILF $, the follow-up to last year's Top 5 hit L.A Love (La La), Demi Lovato returns with a brand new track called Body Say, and Imani Williams - the guest feature on Sigala's Say You Do - unveils her debut offering, title Don't Need No Money.

"new release" albums/singles/dvds from across the pond
(well, heading north, with a sharp turn left at the Indo-archipelago, another right turn after the Cape and then over the across the pond.....LOL!)
Heading up a busy week for albums releases are Biffy Clyro with their seventh album Ellipses. The record follows 2013's chart-topping Opposites - will their latest offering reach the same highs on the Official Chart? They face competition from Avalanches, who return with their long-awaited follow up to 2000's critically acclaimed Since I Left You with Wildflower, while newcomer Shura makes her highly anticipated debut with Nothing's Real.
Elsewhere Roisin Murphy releases her fourth album Take Her Up To Monto, and British band Lawson put out their second LP, Perspective.
On the singles front, Olly Murs is back with a brand track called You Don't Know Love, John Newman unveils his latest track Ole with Calvin Harris, and producer Feed Me releases his new collaboration with Nina Nesbitt, called What It Feels Like.
