Hopefully this will be the end of this silly saga.

Every day on commercial radio, which I hear mainly because it's played at my gym, I hear pieces of older popular songs blatantly copied into the middle of current pop hits. I think some of the perpetrators actually take a pride in doing this and getting away with it. That's why I get so steamed up at things like this lawsuit, which I regard as a case of "Other people are getting nice payouts for copyright infringement, so I want a piece of that action, let's give it a go."

I was surprised Paige/Plant got away with it as that intro sounds too similar to the Spirit guitar solo that youd think it was impossible for two writers to
write what I consider an almost mirror image piece of work.

It does sound a little similar. The thing is, it also sounds similar to any number of other instances in which that particular chord progression has been used. For example, the song "Summer Rain", sung by Johnny Rivers and written by James Hendricks (not to be confused with Jimi Hendrix).

Chord progression has been used in classical music also!
The ultimate connection is between a performer and its' audience!
