At least for me, music is an important outlet... it's one of the reasons I can get through the day and can keep myself sane or feel some measure of happiness. I seem to write my best songs when I'm inspired and am emotionally uplifted or when I'm hurt or despairing, IMO. I express myself through many stages of my life through music and my tastes in it evolves along with me. Sometimes a song or an album will resonate with me so well that I will feel less alone in the world and cheer up or I might cry because someone else feels the way I do.
Perhaps music isn't necessary for survival, but I think it's helped put a little light in my world. Has music helped you during dark times in your life too? If the question is too personal then my apologies.

Basically what you've said is pretty much the way I feel too, music get's me through the days and nights, makes me happy and soothes me when I'm sad.

Without music I would probably be a well-adjusted normal male.

Just for the sake of clarity, do you mean music keeps you from being well-adjusted and normal? Or it wouldn't make much of a difference since you would still be a well-adjusted and normal person?
^^ Oh dear. "Can of worms" department.
It also sidesteps the question of whether "well-adjusted normal male" is an oxymoron.
