Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson was born 29 October 1987, better known by stage name Tove Lo, is a Swedish singer and songwriter. Lo rose to fame with the release of her debut album Queen of the Clouds, which opened at number 14 on the U.S. Billboard 200 in October 2014. Lo is known for her raw, grunge-influenced take on pop music. Her characteristically honest, complex and autobiographical lyrical content has led to Lo being dubbed "the saddest girl in Sweden" by a number of media sources. 3 days ago she released second album Lady Wood.

Happy Birthday to Robert Layne "Bob" Siebenberg who wasborn on this day in 1949 in California, USA.

Best known as the drummer and percussionist for Supertramp (Supertramp 1 & 2, as their different incarnations are now referred to, i.e. pre and post Roger Hodgson). He joined for Crime of the Century and was the only American in the line-up until his son Jesse joined them too, in 1999. Apart from Supertramp, he’s released two solo albums titled Giants in Our Own Room which was kinda iffy judging from the couple of tracks I delved into, and a more recent autobiographical offering, Glendale River, released in 2015, which I haven’t heard at all.

He was also in another band, Heads Up, who produced one album, The Long Shot, which is exactly what I suspect it turned out to be despite best intentions … and it was distributed by what I’m sure must have been his own label – Unstable Music! Lol!! Hmmmm - gotta be so careful with names!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMru19Cimnc.

He sometimes styles himself Bob C. Benberg, and these days seems to enjoy coaching baseball.

A post Roger track from Some Things Never Change - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ox1T2LHs1Oo

“Crime of the Century” from the fabulous Paris concert – this may disappear at any moment - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cojlPlUFBbs

And just for fun - something completely different … he drums on this track from The Phillip Lynott Album ….

Happy Birthday to Maestro Ennio Morricone who was born on this day in 1928, in Rome, Italy. He is known for having scored dozens of films, including loads of those lovely spaghetti westerns in his early days, and many more high-grossing box office hits latterly. He has influenced innumerable musicians across a range of genres and sold in excess of 70 million records worldwide. Despite all that, he has lived happily in Italy his whole life, consistently scorning the temptations and lure of Hollywood, and he declines to give interviews in anything but his mother tongue.

Difficult to know where to start in terms of clips, but here goes!

This just had to be in the mix – the theme from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, something that will most probably ring down the ages! … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjehlT1VjiU

The two final tracks from Yo-Yo Ma plays Ennio Morricone, these are from an Italian movie, La califfa … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLNCl45duCE

It would be so wrong not to mention The Mission … Morricone conducting … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oag1Dfa1e_E

A fabulous live clip of Pat Metheny and Charlie Haden playing an excerpt from Cinema Paradiso …. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEwXcgwzIYE,

and I really like this rendition too, by Fado singer Dulce Pontes who he invited to make an album with him …

Anni-Frid Synni Lyngstad (Frida) was born on this day in 1945, in Norway. Pop and jazz singer and member of ABBA, she now sports the title Her Serene Highness Princess Reuss, Countess of Plauen which she acquired when she married her late husband, by whose death she was devastated.

Her birth was the result of a romance between her Norwegian mother and a German Wermacht soldier who, once the occupation of Norway was over, returned to Germany with his unit. War children, such as Frida, were often subjected to insults, threats and worse, including separation from their parents and families, so she and her grandmother left Norway for Sweden while her mother, Synni, remained to work, joining them later; no doubt a strategically planned relocation. Unfortunately, Synni passed away at the age of 21 from kidney disease and Frida was raised by her grandmother, never knowing her father and believing that he had died on the return journey to Germany, during which the ship he was on was reported to have sunk.

That was not the end of the story, however, because as serendipity would have it, her then unknown-to-her teenage step-brother had read a poster in a magazine which gave a complete biography of Frida and her background, including her mother’s and father’s names. Young Peter went home and asked papa if he’d been in Ballangen during the war, and voila – there was a reunion.

Frida sang and performed from an early age and won a talent contest in 1967 which shot her to national fame in Sweden. She released her solo debut album Frida in 1971 which was produced by fiancé, Benny Andersson and the rest is history, as we all know. One thing led to another, as it inevitably does, except it doesn’t always end up quite so fortuitously - i.e. selling around 500 million records!

She has released 5 studio albums aside from ABBA – the last one in 1996, and had a number of collaborations with other musicians, including Phil Collins who produced and played on her Something’s Going On, but she no longer has much to do with the music industry, preferring to pursue other interests. That said, I’ve been noticing ABBA reunion rumblings, but they never seem to come to very much and it just wouldn’t be the same, would it?

One of her greatest friends was the wonderful Jon Lord whom she had asked to write a song for her. Here they are, performing it together …
