Died on this day ...
Janis Joplin died October 4, 1970 of a drug overdose, aged 27. Her raw, powerful and uninhibited singing style, combined with her turbulent and emotional lifestyle, made her one of the biggest female stars in her lifetime. During her career released three albums. A fourth album, Pearl, was released a little more than 3 months after her death, reaching number 1 on the charts. In 1995, Joplin was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2005, she received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. On November 4, 2013, Joplin was awarded with the 2,510th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contributions to the music industry.

Freddie was the ultimate rock entertainer IMO,especially "live".
I don't think Queen ever surpassed their Wembley Stadium show that was recorded in 1984 or 85....they reigned supreme.
its a tragedy the way he died, but when you take lifestyle choices to the extreme as he so often did, especially back then with the whole
HIV epidemic that was so rampant amongst the gay community he was playing Russian roulette, not with one bullet in the chamber
but probably three or four bullets on the chamber.
im surprised Elton John made it through unscathed also because he indulged in some pretty hardcore choices back then also.

36 years ago passed away one of the music legends - John Lennon.

George's death was sad but not unexpected as we all knew he had cancer but John's was a huge shock because of his age, his recent return to music
and the violent way in which it happened...

and as a footnote, since John Lennon's senseless murder 36 years ago there have been over 1.2 million gun related deaths in the US and that statistic
apparently does not count gang related violence, suicides or on-duty law enforcement incidents.....

Mike Botts died on this day in 2005, a day after his 61[SUP]st[/SUP] birthday. He had colon cancer.

He was the drummer and percussionist for Bread, and did session duty on a host of other artist’s albums – it’s a long, long list, but he seems to have worked quite extensively with Linda Ronstadt, Richard Carpenter and Dan Fogelberg, as well as with David Gates in his solo capacity.

She married nine times, one of those marriages being to her divorce lawyer. That is what I call chutzpah.

Between herself and her two sisters they managed to clock up 20 marriages.
