Over the past few years hard drive storage space has increased exponentially. Though mp3s are almost 6x smaller than .wav or .aiff files, storage space is rarely an issue any more. I would rather have the higher quality formats. Does anyone know anywhere that offers high quality music downloads.
Thanks,

Hello , Sure enough MP3 files were smaller . But now I'm not so sure . Always prefered WMA myself and that up until very recently was what boght downloads were in . Always found MP3 to sound a bit tinny . WAV as it turns out is not really any better than WMA . However it seems that MP3 is winning the war as companies such as Napster have now changed to it . However they seem no smaller than WMA and seem to now sound okay much to my surprise .:blah:

There is a format called FLAC.. they are supposed to be of very high quality..
Also mp3 quality depends on what bitrate it is of.. lesser the kbps the lesser the audio quality.

At the end of the day quality does vary in any format . And it depends on so many different things . The sound system it is payed back on for one . And it even depends on the indevidual and what they are happy with . Another thing it can depend on if you are going to burn it on a CD , how good the CD is , and they do vary from make to make . For music unlike the old casstte tapes TDK did get there CDs right .
Another thing might be mentioned . Volume level . It does not matter what sort of system you have to even it all up so the each song is the same , you will never get it to be so . Depends on the genre [i think that's right] . Just depends on what sort of song and how it is done . Adjusting the volume lever for a different song has to be done .
The fact is simple . It is trial and error . You need to experiment . Nothing is perfect .

Iota Wrote:So, you can either buy CDs and rip them in a lossless format or download FLAC files (illegally of course).
How DARE you even think about the latter?!! There are FLAC converters out there and being a linux user, my music is all FLAC although sad thing is my phone doesn't accept FLAC. it's a Nokia 5800 so we'll have to wait for the next installment i guess.
Downloading illegal music... it's no acceptable if you REALLY respect the artist. I hate it when I see my mates' iPods and they have like one or two songs off an album cos they're good songs. Nowadays, people just don't know how to write good albums. Pity...
You do know that most of the recorded revenues is being pocketed by the record labels which I do not respect (at least the major ones)?
If you REALLY respect the artists, go see them live. That's what they can make a living of, moron.

I download illegal music... if it wasn't for illegal downloads, I wouldn't know half of the music I know of..
If I like an artist, I buy their music.. if I don't, they end up getting deleted from my harddisk..
I do agree on Iota's comment above.. Live Shows is where the artist makes more money.

Living on what you profit with your own music is geting hard and hard.
The industry needs an urgent reform.
I like the idea of my music spreaded around the web.
If everybody is DL it is a good sign.
Mainstream artists are making money in other ways. Ringtones are one of them.
