THE POWER STATION "the power station" vinyl, 1985:
a supergroup of sorts...
Robert Palmer, both Taylor's from Duran Duran and the drummer from Chic....
Palmer wrote or co-wrote most tracks so his sound is all over it...
a couple of covers, one from Isely Brothers and "get it on" from T Rex....
eight tracks....
love the first side's four tracks, superb stuff...
the remaining four are the two covers and what i'd consider two Palmer throwaways...
so love four, dislike four....
sorry, but Isely Brothers are sacred to me and T Rex, well, like Bowie, no one should be allowed
to record the songs because no one can improve on what was....
at the same time as this, the other members of Duran Duran recorded under the name Arcadia,
I have that album ready to play tomorrow...
great live version of this one:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

ARCADIA "so red the rose" vinyl, 1985:
so,
a couple of the Duran Duran members with the Chic drummer and Robert Palmer formed Power Station
when the band took a break, Simon Le Bon and the other two members of Duran Duran formed Arcadia
as their side project....
their friends David Gilmour and Sting were bought in to supply guitars and vocals on a few tracks....
Power Station would have scored a pass mark from me, this one however....
would be lucky to get any marks off me!
album sounds like a second rate Duran Duran album without the catchy "in your head" tunes...
cant say I like anything off it but I must have at some point in the past...
either way, album hit double platinum in Canada and single platinum in the US
the lead off single:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

KASABIAN "kasabian" cd, 2004:
UK alt-rockers' debut set....
i cant remember if i own all their albums or am missing one???....
good solid alt rock on here...
was their highest charting album in the US, peaking at #94...stupid Americans!!!...
was the only one not to chart in Australia...stupid Aussies!!!....
one of the most consistent alt rock bands out there, well worth a listen if youre not
sure about them IMO...
MH, never seen you post an album of theirs, do you own any???
my favourite:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

HOODOO GURUS "magnum cum louder" cd, 1989:
the band's fourth studio album....
even though its a good album its always felt like a letdown after the brilliance of the first three...
steady alt rock sounds here, true to their sound
from the album, the lead off single:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

KINGS OF LEON "mechanical bull" cd, 2013:
the band's sixth....
my second favourite of theirs after their latest "walls"...
alt-rock, tinges of country, funk, pop etc on this one...
six singles released from the album but I cant remember any singles getting airplay here???
anyway, my favourite track was the sixth single to be released:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

PAUL WELLER "illumination" cd, 2002:
his sixth solo set...
wasn't sure how i'd feel about it prior to pressing the 'play' button...
I needn't have worried, its stood the test of time pretty well,
in fact, better than I remembered it...
alternative, pop, soft rock, ballads, love songs, even a Gospel tinged track
and the now obligatory instrumental....
#1 in his homeland as expected,
love this album!
two single lifted off the album, the top ten hit "its written in the stars"
and this one:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

THE CLASH "the clash" vinyl/cd 1977
their debut set of six...
I own all six on vinyl and cd....
"the greatest punk album of all time" IMO...
has the ferocity in the lyrics, music and vocals...
only "never mind the bollocks" comes close to it...
this is a perfect album IMO, 10/10, not just punk perfection
but in the history of rock and roll, this would rate in the top 10 debuts of all time
for sure...
unfortunately for the band, they never got close to this album again and neither did punk rock.
the opening track on side one of the vinyl:
the debut single:
"BTO....Bachman,Turner,Overweight
They were big in the 70s....for five minutes,on a Saturday,after lunch..." - Me 2014.

OF MONSTERS AND MEN "my head is an animal" cd, 2011:
Icelandic alt-folk band...
debut album (two released)...
I only own this one, wasn't impressed with the other one when I heard it....
#1 in Australia, top ten just about everywhere else....
some lovely harmonies and melodies...
hear Lumineers all over this one, would like to also say Avett Brothers but that's probably
pushing the envelope a bit...
wasn't sure how this would fare but it came out better than I expected, which is always a pleasant
and most welcome surprise...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM:
WORST TRACK: Dirty Paws
BEST TRACK: King and Lionheart
tracks:
1....dirty paws *
2....King and Lionheart ***
3....mountain sound ***
4....slow and steady **
