OASIS "dig out your soul" cd, 2008:
Gallagher brothers' seventh and final album....
still multi platinum selling in their homeland...
still maintaining their unbroken #1 status on the albums chart there...
no #1 singles off it though, had two top 10 efforts and one that got to #12,
pretty poor effort by their normal standards....
lots of reversed taped guitars, sitars, psychedlia on this one...
sounds like they were listening to Beatle tracks like "rain" and "tomorrow never knows"
during the writing process for this one....
in hindsight, this album is pretty 'piss poor' but its not their worse by any means...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

THE OFFSPRING "Americana" cd, 1998:
the band's fifth of nine, this is the only one I own...
the experts call them punk, theyre not punk!, theyre alt rock with punk elements IMO...
lots and lots of catchy alt rock tunes on here...
a couple of tracks do dip their toes in the punk waters but that's as far as it goes...
album 5x platinum in both Australia and their homeland and Diamond status in Canada...
a very good album....

PATTI SMITH "HORSES" CD, 1975:
NYC native...
punky....
debut set....
heard this around seven years ago, almost to the day on vinyl under an oak tree
at some little place out in the country called Paint Lick...
would have been sipping a soda and sharing THC at the time....
had never heard the album prior to that...
got a respectable score for a first up listen back then, good enough to purchase a couple of months
later anyway....
produced by VU's John Cale...
not a big seller but highly influential and I'm hearing those later influences all over it from PJ Harvey,
Courtney Barnett, Smiths, Siouxie And The Banshees, Nick Cave etc etc.....
a classy album of arty-punk rock and not surprised at all by the rating that accompanies it!
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

KINGS OF LEON "aha shake heartbreak" cd, 2005:
second album by these US alt-rockers....
the only countries who had switched on fully at this stage were the UK and Ireland,
but the album did go 2x platinum in Australia also (album peaked at #25 here)...
cover art is their version of paying homage to one of their idols in Queen (the band, not the person!)...
three charting singles of fit in the UK, none charted in their homeland....
album has a bit of an early Arctic Monkeys chaotic/feverish/hectic thing happening,
but their trademark sound still shines through on most tracks...
favourite track on this one would be in my top three or four KOL tracks of all time if I made a list...
not my favourite of theirs, infact its my least liked album but it still passes...

sixth and latest studio set from these UK alt-rockers...
I call them "UK's Killers"....
hearing touches of Imagine Dragons on this one...
not as good as I thought it was when I first heard it but still good...
in fact, my least favourite of theirs....
the fans thought so with it only reaching "gold" status in their homeland
as opposed to platinum like their other albums...
favourite track is well worth a listen MH, for redemption after Regurgitator!

BOB MARLEY AND THE WAILERS – Kaya (the 1978 version)
The album has just been re-issued as it turns forty this year - remixed by Stephen Marley and released as Kaya 40. On my list of favourite Marley's. Super chilled laidback reggae riddim - a good set of songs IMHO, no doubt at all the boys knew exactly what they were doing. Best for me on this one – “Misty Morning” – love those cheeky horns, although I have to say “Easy Skanking” puts a smile on my face too … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLuHE-82o40

ADAM & THE ANTS "kings of the wild frontier" cd/vinyl 1980
their second album and one that propelled them into the charts
worldwide for a three year period....
another one of Malcolm McLaren's protégé 's....
lots of heavy tribal beats with two drummers...
lots of new wave/punk guitars...
lots of catchy chorus lines and chants throughout...
I guess the band members had a fascination with the American Indians as
most songs reference or are themed that way...
a unique sounding band, especially on this album...
a classy album of post-punk material that stands the test of time really well IMO
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

REGURGITATOR "unit" cd, 1997
Aussie alt/pop/electro-pop band...
second album of ten and their biggest seller going 3x platinum here...
#4 peak in Australia and #7 in New Zealand...
thought I had two albums of theirs, I only have this and a compilation...
a bit of funk, a bit of alt, an almost Britpop song which sounds like Blur(which is my favourite)
some Daft Punk type tunes and a couple of dance type songs...
used to think I loved this album but it seems I only like it...
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
