Happy Birthday to Richard Tandy who is 70 today. Born on 26 March 1948 in Birmingham, England, he is, and pretty much always has been ELO’s keys man which is quite a thing IMHO! (Ok - he was with The Move beforehand, for Blackberry Way, I believe)

^^^ I love watching her at the 5:22 mark of this clip because my late beautiful precious Steve Sanders of the Oak Ridge Boys helps her out on the song that she sings, I pray that she never forgot about what she got from him at the 8:57 mark of the clip because its a memory that I am too late to experience myself.

Today would've been the 77th birthday of my other late beautiful precious, Billy Joe Royal that is. This right here is the title track to one of my most favorite albums from him. Every song on it in my opinion is awesome. This one of course was the radio standout.

Arjen Anthony Lucassen was born on this day in 1960, in Hilversum, Netherlands. He is, of course, the mastermind behind the Ayreon project/s and is considered something of a musical genius – plays any number of instruments and is a prolific composer. He clearly has a penchant and a talent for quite spacey rock/symphonic rock operas and has enlisted various vocalists to participate along the way.

David “Pick” Withers was born on this day in 1948, in Leicester, England. He’s been a drummer since he first started tapping out a beat with knitting needles on a biscuit tin. Despite initial parental misgivings, through sheer dogged persistence and dues paid in the Boys Brigade (which he’d only joined to get close to drum although obliged to first play a bugle and wait his turn), he finally managed to wangle himself a drumkit and that was pretty much that! Career path laid down.
 
The Boys Brigade was followed by a few motley bands, then gigs and recordings with, amongst others, Ian Anderson, Dave Edmunds, Brinsley Schwarz, Gerry Rafferty, Bert Jansch, Ralph McTell, Magna Carta, and as a result of all those associations, an introduction to the fledgling Dire Straits. He stayed with the band up to Love Over Gold (during which time he also played on Dylan’s Slow Train Coming) and then left as he felt they were heading too much in the direction of arena rock which wasn’t/isn’t his thing. He seems to keep a fairly low profile these days.
