What Are You Listening To?
Tangerine Dream - Soundtrack to 'The Sorcerer' - not their best but not bad. A bit repetitive for me.
'The purpose of life is a life of purpose' - Athena Orchard.

I’ve been listening to China. Fantastic album IMHO. So evocative and quite magnificent. “Himalaya” is incredibly descriptive – you can hear the grandeur and the gravitas, the weighty bass notes illustrating the solid, immovable seating of those mighty mountains while at the same time conveying their majesty and then layers of the crisp yet fickle ice and snow and a fierce, bitter wind on top. My intro to Vangelis’ imagery in sound.

The “Tao of Love” is simply gorgeous too – not lengthy, yet 100% complete …

Funny you should be listening to this. I ordered this a few days ago along with 4 other Vangelis albums.

One of my favourite Vangelis tracks - https://youtu.be/ySlb5tds9Eg

^Beautiful track. I go to Vangelis when I don't know what I want to listen to, and it's always the right thing to do.

Harmonia & Eno '76 - Tracks & Traces - very unusual album. Takes some getting used to.

^I listened to L'Apocalypse des animaux the other day, in honour of his birthday - was so taken with "Le Singe bleu" this time around - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2Bp-xkMc20 .

Now I'm catching up with another artist that caught my interest - Steve Jolliffe - The Japanese Way - recorded for a library label ...

Jean Michel Jarre - Aero - absolutely love this album. A reworking of his major works, extremely skillfully done. Been playing it in the car quite a lot of late and I just don't seem to get tired of it. So many different sounds and effects to get completely lost in.

I never thought this was a great album by any means

out here.
album just about bore me to tears this time round
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

the hit single here in Australia:

Today, I have been listening to Mike Oldfield's The Songs of Distant Earth, which I listened to yesterday as well,  Blush

and Spiral and Opéra Sauvage - Vangelis

Spiral was released only two years before China, which IMHO is far more evolved, I think. OS was also made in 1979 and is a lot warmer and more rounded than Spiral. In any event, there are always one or two superior tracks on his earlier albums which I suppose is why they generally end up on the compilations, in this instance "To the Unknown Man" and "Hymne" respectively. This time around, what caught my ear were "Ballade" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGShM5JlVyQ, and "Chromatique" (which it is) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QjJHClRr9g, once again respectively.

In the case of Oldfield - it's difficult to post just one track because they flow into one another - it would probably be this one though ...
