The Track I'm Listening To Is.......................
(23-08-2020, 18:02)Ruby Wrote: The title track from The Wood & The Wire. It's about dreaming of getting your hands on one of those lovely instruments and the joy it brings - a love affair with a stringed thing. And I'm not talking about a G string - just thought I'd slip that in there - in anticipation of potential bawdiness. Lol!

Very good Ruby - you are way ahead of us.

i dont know why but there are some artists i now detest due to their personal lives as i just can separate the two
yet for some reason despite MJ's murky personal life i manage to keep the professional and the personal apart:
i still get the chills down my spine when i see this amazing performance

Long May You Run is one of my favourite tracks. Also mentioned on the last page of my website (page down to get to it). Used to play this many moons ago with Charlie and Fred in countless dives and last-chance saloons. Not the most sophisticated places to be but you sure as hell get to meet the most interesting people there. There was Elvis the dishwasher, Big Red Russell the biker, King Tut who was a serialised comic strip/cartoon writer for a newspaper in Cape Town, Frankie the manic depressive who had a penchant for cocaine-fuelled threesomes, Kelly (Johan Kellerman) - a rugby fanatic and a real ladies man who used to organise all things behind the scenes and many, many other interesting characters, including some professor-types who used to love hanging out in these joints because it gave them an escape from their own realities. Then there was the girl with the hammock-style bed swinging from the ceiling on ropes - in the back room of her restaurant, which only had 1 table with 12 chairs - you booked 2 seats - for you and your partner - but you did not know who the other 10 patrons were going to be. You could be sitting next to a nymph or a nut-job. The conversation was never boring...

Wrote a song about all of this carry-on many years ago called 'One For The Road' - never recorded or published it. Should have but was too busy making a living.

Big Red, the biker, was also the inspiration for a song I wrote about the native American people. I was watching 'Dances With Wolves' at the time and it obviously made an impact because I took the time to write song about it. But I could not think of a title and the chorus was all screwed up. Anyway I went to the pub one day and as I walked through the door Russel, the aforementioned biker, was standing at the bar with his back to me. On the back of his leather jacket - Brothers of the Wind' - their motorcycle club. So the title of the song became 'Brother Running Wind' and the chorus just fell into place.

a very 'Monty Python' looking clip
not surprising since a couple of them do appear in it and George did finance their movie endeavors...

I was so young when I was born
My eyes could not yet see
And by the time of my first dawn
Somebody holding me, they said.

I welcome you to Crackerbox Palace
We've been expecting you
You'll bring such joy in Crackerbox Palace
No matter where you roam, know our love is true.

While growing up, or trying to
Not knowing where to start
I looked around for someone who
May help reveal my heart, and someone said.

While you're a part of Crackerbox Palace
Do what the rest all do
Or face the fact that Crackerbox Palace
May have no other choice than to deport you.

And we welcome you to Crackerbox Palace
We've been expecting you
You'll bring such joy in Crackerbox Palace
No matter where you roam, know our love is true.

It's twue, it's twue.

Some times are good, some times are bad
That's all a part of life
And standing in between them all
I met a Mr. Greif, and he said.

I welcome you to Crackerbox Palace
Was not expecting you
Let's rap and tap at Crackerbox Palace
Know that the Lord is well and inside of you

And we welcome you to Crackerbox Palace
We've been expecting you
You'll bring such joy in Crackerbox Palace
No matter where you roam, know our love is true

You'll bring such joy in Crackerbox Palace
No matter where you roam, know our love
Know our love is true
