Hadn't heard of this band. Former vocalist for Straylight Run who I hadn't heard of either, but that's the background. Not bad for a group debut. Mostly a folk sound. Most of these clips are from a couple of gigs where the audio is terrible, but at least we get to see the band. Love her voice, what I could hear. Nice potential.

My favorite Bowie album. His second album with the unlikely single of Space Oddity going top 5 in the U.K. released to coincide with the moon landing maybe? He had found his career. It was originally released as Man Of Words/Man Of Music in the U.K. then the album was re-released in 1972 to find U.S. success reaching #16 with the title track reaching #15. That release had a different cover of a more recent Ziggy type photo of the man from Mars. Only one throw away here of some weird 45 second thing called Don't Sit Down which was not on the re-release, rightfully so.

Brief lived Boston indie band founded by Throwing Muses/Breeders Tanya Donnely. This is the second and last album, which failed to match the unexpected success of the debut, Stars. Guess Tanya didn't have much patience. Come on Tanya, I bought it. There had to be some potential.
Tanya went on to pursue solo work while sidekick hardcore Gail Greenwood hooked up with L7.

Worst Track - Super-Connected

Best Track - Seal My Fate

Untame my brain.
Give me a name.
Hear my faith.
Seal my fate.
Unholy and dirty words I gathered to me,
Thinking the point was keep what's mine for me,
While he's laughing.
Hear my faith.
Seal my fate.
And when you breathe, you breathe for two.
And if you think you've finally found the perfect light,
I hope it's true.
Unholy and dirty words I gathered to me,
Thinking the point was keep what's mine for me,
While he's laughing.
On every track I fractured every back,
Thinking the point was step on every crack,
And he's laughing.
Hear my faith.
Seal my fate.
And when you breathe, you breathe for two.
And if you think you've finally found the perfect light,
I hope it's true.
You say you saw him laughing.
I hope it's true.
I'd like to see it happen. I hope it's true
'Cause I can feel it.

This album is near the top of a lot of year's best lists. I saw them on tv and liked what I heard/saw. It is pretty good so far.

Midlake - Winter Dies from The Courage of Others [Bellaire, 2010]

Midlake released my favorite rock album of 2006, The Trials of Van Occupanther. I saw them on the tour in support of it. They are finally releasing a follow up! From what I read it is supposed to be more "folk" and "soft-rock" but to me it sounds fairly similar. Which isn't bad, I am liking it.
