Fascinating stuff -

I would not even begin to know what to call this type of music. Parts of it I find intriguing and other parts I find bewildering. But one thing is for sure - you cannot pigeonhole this music. It's like stepping into an avant-garde, abstract painting.

Felix Rösch - Fragmente - a stumble upon (or a YT algorithm upon, to be fair). Huh - I listened twice and probably will do some more. Flagged.

Vangelis - The City. A minimalistic album but very atmospheric.

When I listen to this, it always makes me feel as though I've somehow wandered into a Roger Dean landscape - a not unpleasant imagining!
JMJ's birthday today I find. Happy Happy to him!

Hard to believe this was released in '76. It is still ahead of it's time. And it has not aged at all. The whole thing was recorded in a converted kitchen with very limited equipment and an almost non-existent budget. My 'go to' electronic album. With all the advances in recording technology these days no-one has come up with something better than this album. Just proves the fact that these days technology is controlling the musician instead of the other way around. One of the great secrets of this composition is that it is composed like a classical piece using the emerging technology of the time. JMJ had the idea in his head long before he switched on the equipment. Technology can give you ideas or provide a spark or even suggest a particular path but you must have a creative mind to create a well rounded album and weave the whole thing together. This is one of those albums.

you could also be talking about Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band when you describe that album Jerome.

You're right. I suppose some of my statements could apply to any classic album. It's the thinking behind the album that makes it stand out from the crowd. They normally always start with a plan evolved from an original creative thought.
