What Are You Listening To?
from my library

Had forgotten how good this album was. Their debut and never equaled imo. One of the first bands signed by the newly formed Mushroom label. A Canadian band formed in the late 60's, success didn't arive until Seattles Wilson sisters came on board, starting with Ann in 1973, and later Nancy. Originally released just in Canada, the potential of these female hard rockers made the crossover to achieve stunning popularity in the states with the album reaching #7, with the first single of Magic Man at #9. These girls could rock out as in Crazy On You or make it mellow with the beautiful title song. That is my favorite track and it shows up 3 times in various forms, so I only graded it once.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - (Love Me Like Music) I'll Be Your Song

Best Track - Dreamboat Annie

Heading out this morning into the sun
Riding on the diamond waves, little darlin' one

Warm wind caress her
Her lover it seems
Oh, Annie
Dreamboat Annie my little ship of dreams

Going down the city sidewalk alone in the crowd
No one knows the lonely one whose head's in the clouds

Sad faces painted over with those magazine smiles
Heading out to somewhere won't be back for a while

The Nice were Keith Emerson's pre-ELP band whose basic remit were to be to keyboard rock what Jimi Hendrix was to guitar based rock..............On this their first outing for Immediate records ..........They are a four piece band .There is a battle between Davy O'List and Keith Emerson for leader and direction which creates an interesting tension for approach and direction but it soon becomes clear that Emmo will be the bands driving force....................Even though he has only his Hammond Organ it is still amazing what this keyboard wizard can achieve be it by the use off daggers to play the keyboards by or by sticking his foot into the generator to create an interesting voltage dependent whine or other abuse laden sound. The song writing is interesting and a touch pompous but, hell this was the vehicle of a future keyboard legend, so who worries if the lyrics are a bit suspect....................................Check out also Lee Jackson on bass and debate if his title of one of the world's greatest non-vocalists is valid.Cool
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.

This was Als seventh album and the one that propelled him to FM radios immortality......................Clever poetic mysterious ( What is the tile track really about Drugs or an incident that happened to Al?),musically well written( what about that piano inro to the title track?)produced by Alan Parsons this showed that Al had really come of age and knew exactly what his audience was and what they wanted.

I have seen this man live and it is accurate to say he is true troubadour. he and Peter White play every last bit note perfect with little additional help.

Can I bragg? Saw Al in Birmingham in the UK in the 80s poor PR and marketing lead to a small audience but Al put on a wonderful performance .....asking many people in the audience to name a song of his and he played it

I was able to get around to the stage door after and spent a wonderful hour talking candidly to him about his life, his songs and life in general........I have an autographed copy of Chronicles to boot and my impression? What a great man....very human and very approachableCool

Gradually working my way through some of the huge collection of cassettes that my Computer Tech has given me. He has switched his entire collection over to digital and my car still has a cassette player - so I scored big time.
This is the 1975 release of ROCK 'N' ROLL by John Lennon and, quite frankly, I reckon he is one of the best rock and roll singers I ever had the pleasure to hear in my 58 years. :biggrin1:

In recent days, following the untimely death of Mick Green (the former guitarist of Johnny Kidd & the Pirates) who played with him in this configuration I have laid my hands on and thoroughly enjoyed the DVD of Paul McCartney 'Live' at the Cavern Club: December 14, 1999 from 2001. McCartney is also a great rock and roller - though not in the same class as Lennon was in my opinion.
Mick Green was a great guitarist however!
