i finally got to hear "ok computer" (their so-called 'classic' album) and im not sure what all the fuss is about actually????

FOO FIGHTERS "greatest hits" 2009, cd #1 AU, #4 UK, #11 US.

even though the Foo's rose from the ashes of Nirvana after Cobain's demise the band were in the planning from the earliest days of the band as Dave Grohl had been making demos and giving cassettes of his songs to friends for ages.
although not one of the biggest hitmakers of the post-grunge era the Foo's have been one of the most consistant bands around picking up six Grammy's along the way, this is a collection of 13 tracks that are a good introduction to them and their music.

Really like the Foos, but this is another one where their new song Rope does nothing for me.
Went to #1 though, so what do I know?

One of those artists that's hard to place for me. Also one that's hard for me to get into. Too laid back I guess. Must be that Hawaii lifestyle, where Jack was born and raised. Had his sights set on a professional surfing career, and was quite good, but a bad surfing accident put an end to that. While attending college in California, Jack developed his passion for music. After doing a documentary film on surfing with a soundtrack of his music, he was discovered by Ben Harpers producer, who produced Jacks debut. This is his second album. The guy certainly has a devoted fan base, as his albums do very well. This one reached #3 on the U.S. charts. The Horizon Has Been Defeated was released as a single. I do like this album, but just barely. There were no tracks I love and several that I do not like at all. Maybe I just need to mellow out some way before listening to Jack. Any ideas?

not sure about this guy as ive only heard two or three tracks plus a couple more of your links, i guess i sort of put him in the same catagory as Blunt and cant really say i like him

"the horizon has been defeated", "taylor" and "times like these" were all singles here, Taylor scraped into the top 30, the others didnt really do anything but "times like these" got a lot of airplay and still does.

THE WHITE STRIPES "get behind me satan" 2005, cd.

you know what?...
even though i have three or four of their albums, i cannot for the life of me work out if i like the Stripes, i listen to their albums and think at the time that they are good, but when ive finished listening i think 'what the hell was that about?'
i am also not sure if they are overrated or underrated? if Jack is a good writer or crap???? if they are ahead of their time??

....someone help me decide!

i would like to give this album a good rating, say a 2.1 ish, but then i think thats far too good for them????

KAISER CHIEFS "employment" 2005, cd. #2 UK, #86 US.

this is the KC's debut set, it is a pleasant album made up of nice melodies, the songs at times, contain hints of Blur, The Jam and The Smiths
. and the band freely admit to paying homeage to those bands.
half the tracks rate "1.7" which means they just scrape in to the "like" area, the others all rate "2.0" which means they are 'good' songs, there are no great songs on this on, just a consistantly average set of songs that for the most part all sound the same.
for me, the two last tracks are the best, probably because they are the only two that there is a change in sound and tempo.
this album never really did it for me to get interested in their follow-ups, so i'll just wait for the "best of" album from them in the future.
whilst doing the links and watching some of the live ones i have come to the conclusion that they are a better live act than a studio band, and had this album been "live" it would have got a higher rating!!!
