What Are You Listening To?
In 1967 amid the beginnings of the "Summer of Love",Sgt Pepper and pirate radio a project began;of which the first signs were a single by the lead singer of an important underground group, Tomorrow ( Here we find an early resting place of one Steve Howe from the future band "Yes"!) Tomorrow were an up and coming underground band whose profile included albums and gigs but not singles. Enter Mark Wirtz, a producer with an instinctive feel for the music sceen at the moment and song writer....................Mark produced the big hit of Spring 67 " Excerpt From A Teenage Opera" aka "Grocer Jack"..............It featured Tomorrows lead singer one Keith West and propelled him unwillingly into the position of Teen idle overnight.( Much to his embarrassment!) The track scored highly in the charts around he world and heralded the great expectaion of the project "A Teenage Opera" which was previewed in many music papers as Mark Writz's brainchild.. Later in the year ,a second single appeared from the project called "Sam" and the tension and anticipation of the unveiling of this great new project was high...............However..........no further news of the project followed but, the trail was not cold: a third single called "( He's Our Dear Old Weatherman)" reached the lower end of the UK charts..........

Speculation continued about the project and Mark made diversions and smokes screens but, nothing more seemed to surface ( Perhaps nothing more did or did it???? History shows that there was more but! One had to be a record collector to trace the trail!) All goes cold and apart from the odd retro article no more is said about the project.

Mark Writz goes on working as an EMI house producer and continues his song writing partnership with his then wife.

However, in the early 90s Mark is brought into the public eye by a chance article in a music paper, about what ever happened to "A Teenage Opera?" The article goes on to say that Mark did continue with the project under various different banners and that it did approach completion , however due to Keith West's paradox between Pop Idle and Progressive Rock star made it hard for it to come to fruition.................However, Mark did record , most of the tracks and what was not released was in his hands as demos or acetates.........Enter RPM records who specialize in difficult reissues....................They worked with Mark and others to hunt down most of the tracks and improve the quality of the acetates until they are able to formulate a release of the project in 1996..............And here it is presented a fully fledged Pop Opera ( Well before Tommy!) and a psychedelic rock masterpiece...................Find It...... Listen To it and Enjoy ...Cool
Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.

Irish Celtic rock band that I rather liked at the time. At least this album. The only one I have, I think. I remember playing the hell out of it at the time. Thought they had an early Moody Blues/Strawbs sound. This album is said to be more rock oriented than their previous efforts. A concept album around an Irish immigrant to America. They traded off vocals here, and one is much better than the other, but there are no individual track credits, so I don't know who sings what. This is their 8th album and there was only one more to come. Reached a stunning #155 in the states.

One of the early offerings from Gong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This album has always held a special place in my collection.... I admire any band who can produce tracks with titles like "Squeezing Sponges Over Policemen's Heads" or "Wet Cheese Delirium!
Apart from the fact that this is an odd offering ....I really like it ....it is original and has some great musicianship , a sense of humour and it stands the test of time !Cool

The third album and the first to make waves in the U.S. if only at #52, yet strangely did not chart in the U.K. A guest appearance from Marc Bolan. Jeff Lynne seems to put it all together here. One of their best for me. Both Showdown and Daybreaker were singles although neither did that well. There are no duds on here and Showdown just blew me away.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - New World Rising

Best Track - Showdown

She cried to the southern wind
About a love that was sure to end
Every dream in her heart was gone
Headin' for a Showdown

Bad dreamer, what's your name
Looks like we're ridin' on the same train
Looks as through there'll be more pain
There's gonna be a Showdown

And it's rainin' all over the world
It's raining all over the world
Tonight, the longest night

She came to me like a friend
She blew in on a southern wind
Now my heart is turned to stone again
There's gonna be a Showdown

Save me, oh save me
It's unreal, the suffering
There's gonna be a Showdown

And it's rainin' all over the world
It's raining all over the world
Tonight, the longest night

I was not sure where to put this one as it is classed as New Age I feel it has a place here:

First a bit from the wiki about Medwyn:
Medwyn Goodall is a composer and musician mostly associated with the New Age genre. He was born in Yorkshire, England, in 1961. He lives with his wife Wendy in Cornwall, England. According to Allmusic "Goodall began composing original songs as a teen, earning local notoriety with his band Trax; in the years to follow, he learned to play a vast range of instruments, including mandolin, piano, drums, harp, flute, glockenspiel, panpipes, vibraphone and synthesizer, and cut his first album at age 16"[1]. He is a prolific recorder, having recorded over 75 albums. He also topped the UK music charts twice and sold over three million albums.[2] His first album was Emergence (1987), published by New World Music.[3] His early albums were published also by Oreade Music. Medwyn Goodall recently started MG Music,[4] a record label which specializes in New Age music.
He produced albums on which he arranged, performed, mixed and mastered every song, although his album, Om (2006), was produced together with Terry Oldfield. There is an updated list of his albums at MG Music[4] and at All Music[3] web sites.
Many of Goodall's recent releases have been under the alias Midori. He explains[5] that he chose this alias so he "could record projects that were more ethnic, eastern, or produced for the healing arts" without confusing fans of his other music. However, there are also other musical artists using or known by the name Midori (such as the jazz-punk combo Midori and the Japanese violinst Midori Goto).

This picks up where Mike Oldfield and Rick Wakeman dropped the batton......Hre we have a musical interpretation of some parts of the Arthurian legand.....using traditional instruments and the inspiration that Medwyn has gained from his Cornish experiences........................Far from being music associated with healing this is an attempt to fulfill New Age Music' philosophy of being " A kind of classical music of today" Medwyn is a master of many instuments and most of his work is built up my using multi track techniques to bgive the impression of an orchestra ...... ..... The music evokes the rugged countryside of Cornwall and the magical nature of the myths and legends of the round table.........far from being simple music this is complex and has symphonic overtones .....Cool

Couldn't possibly be as bad as their last one (The Doctor). The 9th release and even though they would never return to their classic form, this one does recover slightly from that previous dismal effort. With Tom Petersson returning to the lineup and the help of the power ballad The Flame which was their first #1 single, this album revived their stalled career. Though usually doing quite well covering classic rock of their day, the Elvis cover just didn't hold up. But what do I know? The track made it to #4, with the album peaking at #16. Some very nice live clips here.

Worst Track - All Wound Up

Best Track - The Flame

Another night slowly closes in,
And I feel so lonely.
Touching heat freezing on my skin,
I pretend you still hold me.
I'm going crazy, I'm losing sleep.
I'm in too far, I'm in way too deep over you.
I can't believe you're gone.
You were the first, you'll be the last.
Wherever you go, I'll be with you.
Whatever you want, I'll give it to you.
Whenever you need someone to lay your heart and head upon.
Remember: after the fire, after all the rain,
I will be the flame.
I will be the flame.
Watching shadows move across the wall,
I feel so frightened.
I wanna run to you, I wanna call,
But I've been hit by lightening.
Just can't stand up for fallin' apart.
Can't see through this veil across my heart, over you.
You'll always be the one.
You were the first, you'll be the last.
Wherever you go, I'll be with you.
Whatever you want, I'll give it to you.
Whenever you need someone to lay your heart and head upon.
Remember: after the fire, after all the rain,
I will be the flame.
I will be the flame.
I'm going crazy, I'm losing sleep.

Remember: after the fire, after all the rain,

I will be the flame.
Whatever you want, I'll give it to you.
Wherever you go, I'll be with you.
And whatever you want, I'll give it to you.
