Born on this day ...
Gary Mallaber was born on this day in 1946, in Buffalo, New York. He is a drummer and percussionist, and he plays the vibraphone, all of which he did on a good few of Van Morrison’s albums, beginning with Moondance, after having heard Astral Weeks and then seeking Van out in an East Village nightclub.

He initially had a band named Raven which seems to have released only one album, but which also opened for some big acts in the seventies - Led Zep, for example; he was a fairly longstanding member of the Steve Miller Band, and has done session work for an astonishing and diverse array of muso’s from Joan Armatrading to Eddie Money, Paul Williams, and not least, The Boss (http://www.garymallaber.com/discography.html). This is a cool interview where he talks about the latter - gives you a very good idea of Bruce Springsteen's committment to, and involvement in his projects - [URL="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpJWoz8ZI4s"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpJWoz8ZI4s

… and “Into the Mystic” from Moondance (which he mentions in that previous clip) -

David Letts, aka David Vanian was born on this day in 1956 in Hertfordshire, England. Lead vocalist and only continuous member of early punk/gothic rock band, The Damned. His career began with digging graves (unlike Mr Stewart who only actually did a brief stint marking out the plots with string and stuff) and Vanian is derived from Transylvanian. He might have been primarily responsible for the onset of Gothic fashion, at the time!

The Damned had a hit single which they never released on a studio album; their cover of twins, Paul and Barry Ryan’s “Eloise”. A one hit wonder for Barry, who sang it originally - [URL="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9md5oW00q4"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9md5oW00q4

Music Head Wrote:I don't dislike David's music
I have 3 of his albums I think
love those 2 songs you mentioned plus Longhaired Redneck, Willie Waylon And Me, and Tanya's Would You Lay With Me
He just turned me off when he did that you know what song
I can separate the music from the man
same with Madonna
like her music but not her

Oh okay. I understand you now and why you feel as you do Music Head.
I don't like the X-Rated songs or those other ones at all but if you knew DAC like I do you would understand him a little more.
He is a bit of a wacko  I have liked him since YNECMBMN but I don't like some of the things he does.
I have been to many of his concerts and was friends with the band and his road manager. Nice bunch of guys.
His RM told us not to pay for any more tickets. We could go around the back with them.
DAC wanted me to ride off with him one night. That would have ended my marriage. Glad I didn't!
I met my friend Kenny on the DAC forum and some other guys I learned to love. I still miss them!
But, like I said, DAC has his faults and I have to say now his concert is no place for a Christian.
They use the Demonic sign alot at his concerts along with very bad language. Surprised I associated with him as long as I did.
I learned to like my friends more than DAC because I met them. DAC is Not a easy person to work for to say the least
He was mean to Bruce his RM. He was also mean to his band (the reason so many left him).
Anyway, I know a awlful lot about him. You can't believe alot of what he says either.
Waylon said once "David is his own worst enemy". He was right! DAC brought alot of his problems
in the music world on himself.
I feel like I should have sent you a PM ED because I'm only talking to you Confusedmile:
Anyway, thank you for the explaination ED!
BTW, I liked Madonna alright till she insulted Kevin Costner ( the love of my life   ) in Truth or Dare.

John Ford Coley, born this day in 1948, in Dallas, Texas. Best known for his musical partnership with England Dan – he’s a classically trained pianist, a guitarist and vocalist; they were very successful in the seventies. Nights are Forever is considered their seminal offering and it's easy to see why, unless you totally loathe soft rock with an unremitting passion! I particularly like this one, which was written by Dan Seals, who is sadly no longer with us - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_ehSLmScEs

…and since it’s Coley’s day today, from the album after that, Dowdy Ferry Road – co-written by himself –

Justin Hayward was born on this day in 1946 in Wiltshire, England. Lead vocalist, guitarist and unbelievably prolific composer for the fabulous Moody Blues; of course he’s also done solo and other work. I’m slightly surprised that he hasn’t been handed an OBE or something similar yet! Then again, the Moody Blues have been inexplicably excluded from all sorts of music industry accolades, although in fairness, Hayward has been the recipient of a handful of awards for songwriting by one or two organisations.

Never mind, I expect he will be forever remembered for “Nights in White Satin” (if the nearly 34 million views of this clip are anything to go by!) -
