Nice to be able to go back to trust and friendship!!!!!!!!!

It's a mixed up sensation this being alive
Oh! it wears a man down into the ground
It's the strangest elation
I can't describe it
Oh it leaves a man weary
It makes a man frown.

She and Him Volume Two ……………..as you would expect this is the second album by the duo .

Track 1 Thieves………..From the beginning there was something that made me feel that this has a definite retro feel to it .................I could hear definite sixties guitar feels in here .....was the backing a rewrite of an old Shadows track ? The product is out of the RGM handbook and the ending made me look for the old record player and be ready to lift the ram off.
Track 2 Here’s The Sun.........Still the feeling of a white soul singer from the sixties plays on my mind ( On The Sunny Side Of The Street ?) and also the knowledge of the time and techniques is not just a co-incidence .....they know what they are doing ......................This is pleasant pop music .
Track 3 Don’t Look Back... Beach Boy harmonies creates a nice sunny feel.....It’s nice stuff and the lyrics are pleasant and nostalgic....the images of go-go dancers would make it complete .
Track 4 Riding In My Car Just like the girl groups of the sixties, she can charm and harmonise in a way that makes the tune stick in the brain and make you want to wander around humming. Here in the Neatherlands its asunny warm day and this is perfect music to complement it!
Track 5 Lingering Still This is the kind of album that you could pack in your hand luggage and it would give you agreat feeling to start a holiday with......near flamenco guitar gives this a good feel ...reminiscent of a good Mediterranean film .........
Track 6 Me and You This made me remember that Jack Johnson as had such a big influence on modern musical production.................nice, easy and a little reflective. Got to say I like the guitar work on this album .........the player has done their style homework and knows how to complement without steeling the show.
Track 7 Gonna Get Along Without You Now I guess we had to do a cover version and I turn to the Wiki for info
"Gonna Get Along Without Ya Now" is a popular song written by Milton Kellem,[1] and published in 1951. Originally written in English, it has also been translated into Catalan (as Tot m'anirà bé sense tu), and has been done in several styles and tempos.
The original version, recorded by Teresa Brewer with Orchestra directed by Ray Bloch on January 10, 1952, was released by Coral Records as catalog number 60676 on April 5, 1952.[2] It reached #25 on the Billboard charts.[3] It was done in a "Swing" style, with big band backing (including mouth harp).
Supports the retro feel and indicates some of the places the influences come from.
Track 8 Home Petula Clark meets 2010 ........This is a bit like “Downtown” and I feel that The Tony Hatch song book must have been Him and She’s bedtime reading...........................
Track 9 I’m Going To Make It Better I began to wonder how this band might look live ........chic sixties fashion ........two people on high stools and a themed set behind them................this track would lend itself to a black and white sixties TV video ..........recalling those wonderful insets they had in TV shows in those days. The camera pulls back and you see the shadow of a guitar player dressed as Hank Marvin????
Track 10 Sing ...................Yeah I think she can !
Track 11 Over And Over Again More Of The Same ..............still they keep the forumla exciting and evocative....................there ae nice connections with the 80’s indie sound too ...guess they must have been fans of this too.
Track 12 Brand New Shoes shows that we can play the acoustic guitar too....not quite a finger picking style but enough to carry the tune pleasantly and produce a classy sound.
Track 13 If You Can’t Sleep To finish accapella a la Beatles Abbey Road...............”Beacuse” they can do so can She and Him

Pack this album with the suntan oil, the paper back and the flight tickets ...it will enhance you early summer break.............and maybe become he soundtrack to it.
For those that say that now-a-days people just can write songs like they used to ....this seems to prove you wrong they can!

Lets see if I can blog this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Cool

Everything about this album is bright and chirpy - it's frothy country and western pop. The vocals are pretty (love the accent!) but lacking in emotion which actually suits the lyrical and musical simplicity.

It's got charm though and could be a bit of a grower.
