Their new album for 2010.
30 years have passed between Aerie Faerie Nonsense and this one. Some of the album has the characteristic Enid sound, whereas other parts are markedly different. This one has some vocal songs, and at times bears a resemblance to Yes or Pink Floyd.
Overall a very good album, and it's beautifully recorded to boot.

The last of my new Enid discs, and the best has been saved for last.
The first album they released from '76, and I already have a partially re-recorded version, but this is the original.
Totally instrumental, and absolutely beautiful, if a bit idiosyncratic...

Supertramp co-founder leaves the group in 1982 to nake his debut. Big Supertramp fan here starting with Crime Of The Century, which I thought was amazing. But yes, they were on the decline. Nothing on this comes close to the best of the groups work. Roger plays everything and adds production chores. Sound is superb, even on vinyl. Only one track I didn't like at all, with the rest scoring a good, but nothing great. The album could only manage a #46 in the states with the single of Had A Dream doing about the same, and I can't see where it even hit the charts in the U.K. which seems strange to me? A very nice live clip on #3, even if it is 20 years later. Roger still has his voice. And a not so good live clip on my favorite.

Worst Track - I'm Not Afraid
Best Track - Only Because Of You
And so we sail towards the dawn
Joining those who gently mourn for you
It's only because of you
Friends may come and friends may go
The only friend I need to know is you
It's only because of you
Mighty castles, lonely kings
Hear the ragged children sing it's you
It's only because of you
He who smiles at lofty schemes
Stems the tide of broken dreams is you
It's only because of you
It's only because of you
And when the storms have died away
Only truth will live to say it's you
It's only because of you
And when the darkness flies away
Only love will shine to say it's true
It's only because of you
It's only because of you

Not a huge southern rock fan but this'll do. Formed in South Carolina in 1971 by brothers Toy and Tommy Caldwell, who are both deceased, the band had it's day. Closest comparison has to be the Allmans who they toured with early on, but these guys have a little more country in them. After the death of Tommy in 1980 (car accident), the band slowly faded from the scene. Formally disbanding in 1983, they reformed without Toy, but never reclaimed their former status. Still together I guess with an album last out in 2007. This is the groups fourth album with a couple of classics for me. Guest appearances by Charlie Daniels and Dickie Betts. The album reached #15 on the U.S. charts, with singles of Fire On The Mountain at #38 and Can't You See at #75. More of a jam band than a singles band. Some rubbish on here also, but it averages out. Most of this will lean country but there are attempts to stretch out to some jazz, which doesn't work for me.

Not their best, but not their worst. Heads above that previous one. Brought Tod Rundgren in to produce, which can't ever hurt. He even wrote a track here (Heavens Falling) which isn't half bad. Standout track in Y.O.Y.O.Y. does it for me which there is no clip for. This is the groups seventh album and they were still on that downward slide, reaching #61 in the states and no singles showing. Were these guys ever a factor in the U.K.?

Why, oh why, why, oh why can't i
Be in love forever
Oh why can't i
Be in love for ever
And ever and ever
I wonder
Why, oh why, why, oh why can't i
Be in love forever
First thing you know
Is what you're looking for
Next thing you know is where you find it
You can't explain the pain
Of feelin' so alone
So i won't even try to tell you, no
Why, oh why, why, oh why can't i
Be in love forever
Oh why can't i
Be in love for ever
And ever and ever
I wonder
Why, oh why, why, oh why can't i
Be in love forever
Some days it hurts so bad
Can't take it anymore
Those days and nights
They last forever
Some ways of feelin' good don't feel good anymore
They only mask your real feelings
Why, oh why, why, oh why
Halfway up, halfway down
Won't you turn my luck around
Halfway here, halfway there
Say the words and i'll be there
Why, oh why, why, oh why can't i
Be in love forever
Oh why can't i
Be in love for ever
And ever and ever
I wonder
Why, oh why, why, oh why can't i
Be in love forever
Be in love forever
Be in love forever
Be in love forever

Not much of one...
The Budokan album made some waves back in the day, & I Want You to Want me still gets the occasional radio play, but not much aside of that.

Thanks Tiggi
CRAZY-HORSE enlightened me also.
We may have a new player on the team. Someone who knows their music and likes to talk about it.
Hey we're up to 5 or 6 now.

Styx is a Chicago band formed in 1970. They had a brief run as prog/arena/rock greats. A lot of competition at the time. The only success at the time of this album had been Lady from their second album which was a top 10 hit. This their sixth album, but the big breakthrough came with the next one, The Grand Illusion. As far as this one, it didn't fare that well here, topping out at #66, with a single of Mademoiselle making it to #36. No activity across the pond for this one. I love a couple of tracks. When Crystal Ball kicks in is excellent. This Old Man kicks in several times, and is just sad. This album is rather short for the time for a prog rock band. Only seven tracks and one at 7 minutes, but the others not that long. Still a good album.

Worst Track - Shooz
Best Track - This Old Man
This old man
He worked for thirty years with
Two strong hands, in the factory light his
Lunch box held all his needs with
Coffee sandwiches and dreams
For me
This old man
He taught me many times
To undertand, that showing love is simply
Nothing you should have o hide
Don't keep your feelings locked inside
He said
When i was young
I dreamed a young man's dreams
I saw in your eyes
The things i'd never seen
But now i grow old
But i don't really mind
Cause can't you see with my family
We'll share these timeless memories
